Soo.... .17 Grendel / ARC ?

I sure like the case but 22 is as small as I've gone so far. Impressive though. I've been shooting a 30 and a 6mm Grendel for several years and just started playing with a 22 version. Definitely a shooter though and impressive speeds in a good bolt rifle. These things are being marketed as long range AR15 rounds but neither is where it shines brightest. But that's where the money is, apparently.

I've shot a few different configurations of 17ppc with 30 Kindler Golds and the 37 Berger. While I like the idea I'm wondering if any more case volume or powder capacity is really needed. Depending on what bullet and twist you use rpm most likely will blow them up before they reach the target/varmint. I think if Hornady ever made a 30 vmax in 17 caliber it would be well received, especially if it worked in a 9 twist.
What I really would like to see would be a 20 Grendel with an appropriate ELD-VT for more energy and better b.c. down range. Don't get me wrong I certainly like my 17s, they certainly have their place for fur/ varmint hunters and I believe they work well beyond their small size but think what a 20 Grendel with some support from Hornady could do.

Increasing powder volume while also reducing bore diameter can be a bad recipe, especially if the bore is very small. The barrel life of a .17 Remington is a fraction of the barrel life of a 17 Fireball. I thing a .17 Grendel will be a barrel torch. Precision barrel life will be gone in a blink. If you do go this route then 26" bull barrel so that you have room to cut/set back every 750-1000 rounds... not kidding.

I'm with Matt... a .20 cal would be a better option plus there is significantly greater bullet selection.
