Some times "It just Is What it Is"!

Just what is....."It is...what it is"??

The law of probability says that if enough groups are shot a few 'real burners' will pop up!

I think Ted's point was that the rifle shot the same load well despite several years separation. He wasn't presenting it as a definitive statement about load development or statistical certainty, just that the rifle still seemed to like the same load. [br]
As for the match: I shoot the match regularly, too. It's called a Reduced Palma because of the 3X15 format and because 300 yards is all that range offers. It is an NRA Approved Match. As Ted and Greg noted, a fun match that may seem easy while it actually is not. The range is located in the foothills of the Cuayamaca Mountains around 1500 feet and is subject to swirling and variable winds. It is also where I do my load development. The 300 yard line is so unpredictable that all my development is done at 100 yards. If anyone thinks that they can set some new range records while showing the rubes how it's done, please come out and have a go. ;) [br]

My point is and it is about group pics that are printed on this site and others. I can hand pick groups that I have shot over the years that will blow your socks off. You know it proves nothing unless you have at least 5 groups on one sheet of target paper.
I'm not trying to take anything from anybody, but as you will see the serious shooters see a lot of good groups, but not at one time. Not saying it doesn't happen, but I disregard one small group.
I don't like to disregard any small group because it depends on when and where you shoot it. When I shot an .088 at the Super Shoot in a LV 100 match, Jim paid me for it.

Hey Ted are you guys coming up to Coalinga for the States again. Was nice to have shooters from all over our really long state.

Ted,

That is a sweet looking boom stick brother! I've pondered adding a Tikka to my stable any times but have yet to do so. However your results make me want to think about it more seriously. That's some great shooting!

Greg,

We missed you at the first match this year at ENGC. Herb won and I took second with Pinky. But I out X'ed him. :-D. Hope you can make it out this year some time as it would be great to see you...and drag Steve with you!

Steve,

I agree with your sentiment. It seems that all to often people are quick to slam a thread when we should be encouraging each other in out pursuits of the shooting sports.

Keep up the good work gentlemen!

I don't have nothing to prove, it is what it is!

Why do so many people from California say this? My brother moved there a few years ago and now he spouts this meaningless gibberish.

And what does it even MEAN? Saying "it is what it is" is like saying "equals equals equals" or just "= = ="

It's got to be the most vacuous, brain-dead and annoying expression in the English language. So I guess it's appropriate where it seems to originate...sorry to go OT guys...

It emphasizes the apparent and indicates that it is unlikely to change. [br]

Here's a similar one: [br]

Exodus 3:14
King James Version (KJV)
14 And God said unto Moses, I Am That I Am: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I Am hath sent me unto you.

I guess I'm just old school. "It is what it is" ... and what it is, is a stupid expression.

No, you cannot blame it on "old school." The first time I heard the expression, I knew exactly what it meant by remembering my bible studies. God told Moses the same thing in first person. "I am that I am" in Exodus is God's answer when Moses asks what name he shall tell the Israelites. The same form also appears in Revelations 1:8 [br]
So, the present example is merely an object pronoun substitution for the personal pronoun, generalizing the specific statements found in the bible. You might be surprised how many common language usages have biblical origins.

I guess it depends on what is is right?

In the link you posted, it says that "It is what it is" can be directly translated into "F_ck it."

So you're telling me that God told Moses, "F_ck it"?

Sounds more like Popeye to me: "I am what I am and that's all what I am!"

No, and I think a reasonable person would recognize the reference was to the second definition. I see now that what another member pm'ed me about you is true. You are what you are.

Joe, I thought seriously about coming to the first match, but obligations at work made it impossible. Great shooting by you and Herb! I saw the scores, it sounded like there were some serious breezes.

Well you were missed. It was a lot of fun for sure. Winds started out breezy at about 15mph and slowly built until at the end it was steady at 25mph with gusts to 35mph and more...but as you know, it is what it is...

LOL!

I think he's trying indicate that the type comparison should be strictly interpreted. Although his syntax is a bit off - I think he meant "===", not "= = =". It's an easy mistake to make and would be caught on execution. In this case, "it is what it is" means that it can only be exactly what it is - no type conversions. You guys are all wrong - "it is what it is" (e.g., ===) is basic Javascript syntax. Get with it!

That's just sick, man ;). I noticed you and Herb had some really fine scores, even more so knowing the wind was that strong. My impression is that the F-TR gang suffered from the conditions a lot more than either of you. Isn't there another match this Saturday? If so, good luck and tell Herb I said Hi.

Thank you for the kind words. Ya, the TR guys had a rough go at it. Heck, even the open guys who couldn't read the changes had a hard time. I blame my shooting on that dang pink rifle, Jay and Erik know about it's abilities...first string was a 199-14X and Herb was like "WOW". LOL! We had a great time though.

Yes there is a match Saturday and I plan on being there. Herb won't be able to make it due to some other plans so I'm gonna have to give it a go and see how I do when my buddy isn't there to chide me. However, we chat regularly so I'll pass on your greeting. Man these BC 142 bullets sure do fly good! Couldn't be happier with the choice to go with a .260AI...
