Some Newbie Questions

I have been reading the articles on the main page for some time and I have to ask a couple question that will certainly show how new I am but I don't really see addressed elsewhere:

1: Why do factory rifles seem not to be considered competitive? I know that there are any number with guaranteed accuracy and one would think something like the Weatherby Accumark would be at least a good start.

2: In the products discussions I haven't seen mention of the HS Precision products and I know that they have their own custom action and stocks, why aren't they reviewed/considered competitive?

3: Are there any semi auto actions with the accuracy needed for F-Class competition or is it bolt action by rule?

Again, I am sorry for the ignorance I am showing here but I would appreciate if people could give me a little feedback on these things... Thanks!

well the factory rifles have a lot looser torrence's and that's why we true a factory action when we are building a custom rifle. you mentioned the Weatherby Accumark well they guaranty 1.5 moa out of there rifle's you should be seeing under .5 out of any quality build custom rig.

as for the H-S products I haven't ever played with anything of there's but the stocks. I don't like that they have that aluminum bedding bock. my reason for that is that simply that they cant machine that block to fit an action as well as i can glass it.

It appears you can use a semiautomatic action type rifle. I goggled the rules. Chapter 22 Section 3.4 F-Class,a) and F/TR-Class,b) only specify “Any safe, manually operated trigger is permitted.”

I would guess that since bolt actions are inherently more accurate, no competitor would purposely hinder themselves by using a semiautomatic action type rifle.

Maybe it's time for a new class or sub classes. The F “benchrest belly” Class as it has now evolved is not what I had envisioned it would look like five yeas ago.

krieghund,

think of it in these terms and thought patterns. If you had to design a gas operated bolt group with a rotating bolt head that was driven back into battery by a big buffer spring and was capable of operating at cyclic rates of 600 rounds per minnit and knowing that it would have to be taken apart for cleaning then reassembled many hundreds of times. How close do you dare set the tolerances., Answer ) not very close

Mass produced bolt action rifles produce by all the big names like Remington, also make their parts interchangeable within the same series and calibers just like the gas gun companies with the exception of Colt. Colt doesn't want you to buy anything from anyone else so they made all their parts a little bigger so they wouldn't interchange. As far as tolerances Still not very close.

Custom Actions... Made one at a time. Most are milled with minimum tolerances in mind to avoid tilting or binding of the bolt when moved into battery. You don't have to take the extra steps of Squaring the receiver, bolt face, re-cutting the tenon threads, or lapping the locking lugs, it's all taken care of and done right the first time, WHEN ITS MADE )

In the arena of custom precision rifles vs factory offerings, you get what you pay for. In the state of current affairs within our borders this will not hold true when you purchase that factory AR gas gun., supply and demand )

The f-class scoring rings are 1/2 min. That's pretty tight, You are at a real disadvantage with a one minute rifle. AR's are nice but their not a bolt gun. All F-Class is single load single shot slow fire, so why would you want to shoot a gas gun?

The Savage F-Open or F-T/R rifles are good factory starter guns at a good price. Do you already have something to shoot?
