Some help selecting some new reloading gear

I feel ya. 71 years old and I have arthritis in both wrists.. More and more I go to power stuff for case prep. I have an RCBS motorized case trimmer. And for cleaning primer pockets an electric screw driver. I found a small drill chuck on the internet, that has a 1/4 hex shaft. It snaps into the screwdriver. I then place a primer pocket brush into the chuck. . For a few of my high use calibers [204, 223] I bought two of The Worlds Finest Trimmers. One in each Caliber. Chuck it up in a battery drill and trim away.. Now my wrists hurt just from typing all this..

I tried wet cleaned brass, ripped the jackets off my bullets when seating them.

I couldn't ever find a lube for bullet or case that worked as well as the carbon that shooting put in it after a pass or two with a bore brush.

Happy about that actually cause it saves me at least two more steps.

As for the automated cleaner (tumbler), do not get an ultrasonic. Go with a rotary tumbler and stainless steel pins. Water and dawn is all you need.

I have 3 types, only one that gets used is the rotary tumbler. The ultrasonic has been given to wife for her jewelry and the vibratory one collects dust as it is too noisy. Kids will use it for polishing rocks, but it never sees my rifle cases anymore.

I don’t know how attached you are to the reloading portion of shooting, but I know that you can send your used brass to people with your recipe for your loads. They obviously charge for it, but they will reload your cases the way you request them to. Just an idea.

I'm looking into the 21st centruy primer now and I have a question about it for everyone who uses it: do you honestly have to drop each primer in by hand?!?!

Yes, but it’s no where near as bad as it sounds. I didn’t get one for years because I thought the same way - that I needed the tray or it would be annoying/slow. I was wrong. It hardly slows you down at all at normal reloading volumes. I would never go back to the trays, personally. It may be a different story with arthritis or other hand issues.

Two suggestions... 1) reduce tumbling time to less than an hour, this will result in clean outside surfaces and primer pockets while letting a carbon residue on the internal surfaces, and 2) chamfer the case neck ID after tumbling, those pins can peen the openings.

Thanks for the suggestions but I’ve decided I don’t need shiny brass.

I don’t have time for extra steps that I feel aren’t nessecary.

Maybe I could be proven otherwise but man I really don’t need to spend any more time in the reloading room.

If your brass is not shiny, my wife may mistake it for some old junk and try to decorate the house with it! On the bright side, for you anyway, she will pay way more than it's worth.
