Solvent proof cleaning jags

What is a good source for derlin or aluminum cleaning jags that won't turn blue from powerful copper removal solvents. Thanks, George

Great idea. I bet you could 'dip em in clear nail polish too. But lacquer might be the best.

Coating them means you could also color-code them by size:

Tipton makes a good nichol plate jag that stands up to BORE TECH ELIMINATOR copper remover that a strong cleaner that works great

Recently tried the Tipton "Ultra" nickel plated stab jag tips in 22 & 6mm and found them to be a very tight fit when using the Sinclair patches, my favorite). With the Sinclair & Dewey stab jags, I get a good, firm fit with proper resistance when pushing the same patches down the bore. Measured & compared the jag diameters and found the Tiptons' to average .020" larger than the Sinclair & Dewey. Also the stab tip on the Tiptons are too short and the patch will frequently fall-off before inserting it into the Neil Jones bore guides. Not at all happy with the Tipton "Ultra". Just my 2 cents worth: in the case $8.58 at $4.29 each. Will try some of the suggestions, as posted above.

I had the same experience with the Tipton "Ultra" nickel plated stab jag tips as fdshuster concerning the diameter. They make it real difficult to push the patch down the bore. Another thing I discovered was that after multiple trips back and forth in the barrel, the nickel plating wears off and now you have spots on the jag that will give you false readings of copper just like ordinary jags.

There is a fellow in Billings, MT who is making jags out of some material,I don't recall what) that is not subject to giving false copper readings. However, he doesn't make any in that will fit the two calibers I want--.172" and .204"!!!

The best spear type tips I have used are the GunSlick black nylon tips. I have used the 92400 for the last couple years in my 6BR and 6.5-284’s. Unlike the white plastic these are strong and no brass to worry about.

I would give my third child if someone would make and sell Derlin or plastic spear-tipped jags in .172 and .204 caliber. No one seems even mildly interested in providing such jags. Is that because they are difficult to manufacture or they don't think there are many small caliber shooters around?

I you have seen the Sinclair jags and have access to a lathe...copy one of theirs in stainless. I made a few a couple of years ago and haven't had any wear at all on them. You get a clean result from your solvent on your patches. In my oppinion the sprear type are the best style of jags.

Brian, the only one I've found that eats it off is TM. Butch's, SC or Wipeout doesn't seem bother it. Most of the time I use rattle can clear lacquer.

I applied every thing I could think of to my old brass jags and before the barrel was clean it had disappeared again 'O,
