So you think you may want to try long range Benchrest?

I have gotten enough calls about how matches are run that I decided to take a Video. It is un edited and un professional as usual but it starts just as the last relay cleared out and runs through the end of the record target. This is the whole relay. You can plainly see there is nothing to be intimidated about, very relaxed, and plenty of time given to makes sure everyone is ready. This is Tom Mousel setting up his stuff to shoot, so you guys may also pick up some pointers as well. I hope this encourages anyone on the fence who may be a little intimidated to go to a match. I get it, we all were there at one point, but once you show up you will realize how silly that thinking was.

Many years ago, it seems almost another lifetime ago, I shot 100 / 200 yard Benchrest. I only did it for a short while, however, it was fun. I shot "Factory Class" with a .223. It was fun, however, "life and family" sort of got in the way. So back to hunting I went. Then after I retired from the force, a couple of friends of mine convinced me to try F-Open. It took only 1 match to "get hooked"! I also found out that the competition was addicting. Jumping in with both feet was the only way for me! I am quite certain that, although I have never shot L/R Benchrest, it would be just as addicting as F-Open.. There are always helpful people around to lend help. Give it a try, I would bet you will get hooked too!

I have competed in both F-open and 1000 yard BR. They share more things in common than differences. They are both a lot of fun and challenging. It only took one match for me to get hooked and I like to shoot them all!

I do too! I shoot everything I can get my hands on. I almost spend more time loading than I did working! LOL!!!

What is the sheet material on the bench top ?
It's always a pain to get the rests lined up when switching benches never thought of this

Its conveyor belt. Club rule to save the bench tops. However it serves a couple purposes other than that and I would use it, rules or not.

Is that our Sinclair wrench that I see there in action?

Are sighter targets pulled, marked & put back up after each shot?

Nice video. Thanks for posting.

Alex, sorry, nothing there that resembles anything "video" on my screen. Not to worry, but thank you
for posting. I can determine by others comments that it is illustrative of the "first match process" I asked you about. RJ

newbieshooter....thanks, but there is nothing beyond "see if this works:"
I'm wondering if my computer is blocking it somehow.....oh well, thanks! RJ

Yes you were one of the reasons I made the video. I thought it would be a way to get more guys to come out a try the sport. Thanks for the idea.

Alex, I kinda thought you'd remember our discussion about the topic. I'm checking into my computer, but I'm limited on that subject too! For sure, I'm putting the Deep Creek event on my "to do" list for next summer. I'm thinking my new rifle will do good.....if I can do good! thanks, RJ
