So, Would U punk ?

Just something about those old Winny's. In my 30-30 I use a 311041 sized to .310 and 7 grains of Unique. Deer around here are like fleas and long shots are 50-70 yards.

Not Bad for almost 127 years old. Tight n smooth as silk to run. Photo is of an RCBS 150/160 to 310dia. home cast lead slug. Pretty easy to load for, reasonably priced date so to speak. mikeinct

I'm older & one of the fortunate few. Still able to hunt deer in my old age. I'm, working thru my old hunting rifles. Shot a deer every other year or so the past few seasons w my vintage hunting rifles. Anyway, I'm down to a Very Very old Winchester 1894 30WCF octagon barrel w/ a Lyman peep sight unit. I've only had this old girl out to the range maybe 3 times in the past twenty something years. Oh, & only with reduced velocity loads. Seems Ok enough, rifling is decent for it's age, I want to test drive this rifle w/ cast bullets & shoot a deer this year with it. How many of you would risk or try this stunt? mike in ct
I'm not a collector, every firearm I have I shoot but I wouldn't want to recommend shooting this rifle in the field until you check to see if it has any collector value. That may mean something to you.

I have a 105 year old M17 Remington I shoot regularly, a pair of 80 year old M1 Carbines that are still working defense rifles and a bunch of old stuff.

Even if it is collector grade if that means nothing to you take her and good hunting.

David Wrote Above... " I'm not a collector, every firearm I have I shoot but I wouldn't want to recommend shooting this rifle in the field until you check to see if it has any collector value. That may mean something to you. " Thanks Dave, You will be glad to know I'm mailing out the form to the Cody Firearms Museum today. I have a feeling the Lyman peep sight added to her kinda wrecks the "Collector value" .... Either way I'm going to shoot some more reduced loads thru her, If I do hunt with that old rifle it will be under the best of circumstances. Thank You Sir. Mike in Ct
