SO WHO BUILDS A 600-1000yrd BR rifle FAST?

So...admitting that patience is not one of my strong traits...who builds a good 600-1000yrd BR rifle that is not 8-15 months out?

Take care

Savage?:D There are some nice used rifles advertised from time to time here. You may be better off looking for something used.

You can usually get the action/stock/bbl/dies/bullets/etc. from Bruno in a matter of days...he will even do the gunsmithing ..the bedding usually is up to you...most gun nuts can do their own...so that is a quick way to a new rifle...Roger

If you want a custom rifle built to shoot 600-1000 yards, I wouldn't want a gunsmith to rush in making it! If your like me, you would have enough toys to keep you busy while you wait! That way you could play with the other toys and just forget about the build. That way when the gunsmith tells you it's done it would be a pleasant surprise!

Mr. Springman has a 600/1000yd light gun for sale in the classifieds. I had a chance the see his rifles first hand at the World Open in Williamsport last weekend... very knowledgeable guys, and build a hell of a rifle.

here's the link...

Presuming they have the barrel you want in inventory--and they have many--MT Guns has a quick turnaround.

This would be a Barnard P action, no ejector, or the Barnard dual port, a Shehane MBR tracker, and most likely a Bartlein barrel.

They're a site sponser, so you should be able to click on their ad, or go to mtguns.com

Not sure where you live but if in the PA area Bob Green in York PA does a supperb job and his normal turn around time is very good. He has a web site google Bob Green custom gun shop.

There are 2 guns in the classifieds that are shooters and avaiable now. Take a look.

I learned long ago....that used guns....like used cars...are usually sold for a reason...I'm just say'in.

And some times those reasons are they just don't see enough action to justify them sitting in the safe for years. And passions and desires change.

I bought 3 used guns related to this site, 2 shoot lights out, and the 3rd I have not fired yet. I understand your point, but there are some really nice paper poppers on this site, and much cheaper, and as the thread poster plainly puts it 'FASTER') than building one yourself.

Hi BigBamBoo, Look at Bruno's, they usually have a few rifles built and ready to go. Bruno's advertises on this site and they are great to do business with. Good Luck, Lightman

ok BigBamBoo here goes i know nothing about the guns you ask. But I do know savage arms catalogs them in 6.5-284 norma and 6mmBr and 308. If it were me I would go get a savage in the caliber of my choice and call it a day

Stan, there are great used rifles for sale. Not all are looking to burn someone. I change rifles nearly as often as underwear... My wife would say more often. :)

Like most, I don't have unlimited funds for my toys so, if I want something new or improved, then something has to go. Within the last three years, I sold all of my BR, Varmint, and Tactical rifles and replaced them with BATs and Surgeons at much greater cost. I've yet to build a better shooter than the Hall S 22BR switch barrel setup that I sold on the Hide. But, I wanted all BATs for ease of barrel replacement, so I sold and rebuilt.

All three of my Halls had different head space and required sending the barreled action each time that I wanted a barrel replacement. Same with the 700s, so I bought Surgeons.

And NONE of the GAPs, KMWs, or APAs have shot a bit better than a 700 308 that Mike Bryant built for me back in 1999. He built to my specs and used Walter Birdsong's Black T finish that held up much better than any of the more modern DuraKote or CeraKote stuff being used today.

So, there are nice rifles being sold every day. You take a chance on every purchase, just as you take a chance on every new build. Not every barrel is a hummer.

Good luck on your build/purchase. You'll enjoy the sport.

Best regards,

Good guns you get in a hurry are just that.
Guns that shoot extremely well and win have a wait time for a reason.

I understand your point. But it does not take that long...few hours...to chamber a barrel. Prepping a stock 4-6 hours depending on how much work needs to be done. Bedding a few hours and then overnight curing. So 3-4 days to assembly a rifle if you have all the parts on hand.

I am no stranger to CNC machines, lathes, end and vert. mills, etc. And there is no magic to it. Tolerances and attention to detail is what is important.

Take care,Stan

Perhaps you're missing the point....all GOOD smiths have a backlog.....and you should get to the front of the list because-_____________,fill in the blank)

LH and Francis, thats a pretty broad brush your painting with.

I am sure that there are many Smiths just starting out with no reputation that are very good but have no back log, yet.
There are also some Smiths with a backlog that I wouldn't let work on a Potato gun.
One just needs to do a little research before picking one.

The only Smithing I do is for myself, so I don't consider myself a gunsmith.
