So I bought some Peterson 6.5 Creedmoor brass today....

I went to my local reloading supply store today and was happy to see some Peterson brass on the shelf. 50pcs for $45....I'll take two. Got home and realized, I bought the small primer brass. Turns out, you can't see too good when your head is in your butt.

Any reason I should be disgusted with myself? From what I hear, it'll cause issues with double base powders, but other than that, I should be good. Should I just be happy and try out my new SRP brass?

One thing for sure. . . various SRP's are a lot easier to find. ;)

I will never buy another piece of LRP brass where SRP is an option. You did well, but you may have to get the bolt bushed. I think bushing the firing pin hole is a great idea on any factory rifle.
I found a thread on here taking about Howa's and SRP's. I'll look into getting the bolt bushed. I'm going to give my local guy a call tomorrow.

This is thread I found on the subject.

I have Petersen 22 Creedmoor brass in LRP and SRP. Both are awesome. The SRP works perfect as long as you have a case full of powder. SRP has hangfires with my H380 loads, but works well with Varget or n165 loads.

Why not just return it for what your really looking for.

As Clancy said, I'll never buy lrp brass where srp brass is an option. When you shoot a lot, as is the case with competition rifles, the pockets hold up much longer due to more brass surrounding the pocket. You can run hotter loads longer than you can with lrp brass. I've used both mag (as in CCI 450) and regular (as in CCI 400) primers. Both work well. All of my 6.5 CM brass is Lapua srp.

P.S. My 308 and 6 BRA brass is also small primer. But then 6 BR brass is small primer.

.079 is what I measured the firing pin tip on the Howa, although it had excellent fit with hole.
.062 is what most custom actions come with now for small primer brass, I believe .
I measured mine a while back and I can't remember what it came out to. I want to say mine was .080 firing pin dia and .083 hole dia. With yours measuring .079, that's probably right. I'll check it again when I get a chance. I remember just using calipers when I did it. I'll drag the mics out next go around.

Like you, I didn't think that the fit was bad, but I'm not sure what tolerance it's supposed to have either.

Mine was just measured with calipers quickly. It may work with the magnum primers like some said above.
