So sorry if this is a stupid question, but how exactly does a guy go about going from an idea of a wild cat to actually getting dies reamers barrel ect ?
Like say I want to have a lil wild cat based on the fn 5.7 just necked down to .17 cal or something . Is their somone a guy with no machining or gunsmith knowledge just calls up or ? Do I need to know like exact shoulder angles case measurements and what not ? From my understanding most guys into this just get the reamers made up to heri specs and they will make everything else ..but again for a guy without a lathe or machining know how ...?

17 velociraptor is what you are talking about cartridge wise. That should get you started with specs and direction.

Without tools or a lathe your best bet is find a local gunsmith and talk with them about your project.

Welcome to the disease, maybe start with Contender and Encore platforms

Might take your wildcat idea to Dave Kiff, Pacific Tool & Gauge. He has always been willing to help with mine. Never know, he might already have a reamer print of what you're after! After all the discussions, trial prints, etc., he will deliver a reamer to you. Then you need to find a gunsmith to chamber/built. Now comes the fun of forming the cartridge brass...might want to carefully consider this later phase FIRST.
