That link didn't work for me but I did see this:

- on Fox this morning.

I'm sure wildlife has suffered too, along with many citizens affected by that storm. We have forum members who might give us first-hand reports once their lives return to something like what it was before the snow fell last week.

SD is a ranching state and is thrilled with high wildlife deaths. Keeps them from imaginarily competing with there sacred cows for graze. Trouble is the taxpayers and hunters will once again pay (happens about every 10-15 years there) to repopulated wildlife on overgrazed public land.

Don't worry about them cows or the Ranchers. They will all be driving nice new Trucks this spring with YOUR farm bill monies.

My sonand I hunted the Wyoming opener for antelope. We hunted Tuesday, Wednesday and planned to hunt on Thursday, but left a day earlier for PA because of the severe weather forecast. Good thing we did ! Talked to the rancher on Sunday whose property we hunted. He said they got 3 feet of heavy wet snow along with 50 MPH winds. He and his kids were out on horseback surveying miles of broken fence and sorting/herding cattle and horses. He said that weather of this nature this early in the season had not happened since 1984. My thoughts and prayers are with those folks.

Is this just a few sentences of stupid and ignorance or would you care to clarify the above to as not appear as such?

Why you being "nice" to someone, who obviously knows NOTHING about cattle… nor the families who live their lives subject to the whims of the weather ?

I think he is commenting on they way the local Ranchers around here operate. They raise cattle on land unfit for prairie dogs with government subsidies for water, work about three weeks a year, watch the gas companies make them money (through drilling on the same grazing land) Then when weather or poor ranching or whatever else kills off the livestock the Feds. pay them more subsidies to make up for the loses......
It may not work that way everywhere, but around here the ranchers are worse the any inner city welfare mama. IMHO

P.S. They are also the ones that complain the antelope eat all the grass and will not allow anyone to hunt ,because again the Government pays them to get feed when studies show the land will no longer support their herds........

I am done my rant now. Thank you for your time.

Complain about the farmers and ranchers with your mouth full of food. Makes sense to me.
Not complaining about farmers just the ranchers around here in particular, besides the pork in my freezer came from texas via a hunt and the rest came from the antelope and elk on public land here , I have not bought beef in about two years , because despite that fact that cows are literally everywhere here, you would think they only slaughter Blue ribbon winners judging by the prices in the local markets....... :)

Cows are 150 or 160/pound on the hoof, blue ribbon or not. Local slaughter house near where I lived growing up wondered how they stuck so much manure on a cow prior to shipping(at the purchase price/pound??. Check the stock page or the TV news.

I guess my problem is the l;and they graze on. They 'rent' at pennies/acre', your land and mine and we cant go on it.
Many US Senators have 'farm subsidies".

Drive across ND and MT for a thousand miles--80% (or more) public land and there is a fence on each side of the interstate-for hundreds of miles....not open to our use. Rented for just about nothing.

Was in one state last year at Labor day weekend Sunday--talked with a F&G guy about camping. He told us anywhere past a certain point.. All it was was barb wire for 40 miles.. No place to camp without getting shot.

The best blm land scam yet, is the same grazing land that gas companies are drilling they put up signs that say NO Public Access. The game warden here says to ignore the signs......... but its an ass ache when the gas company shows up to run you off OUR FRIGGING LAND!
I am done this time for real , Thank you for listening. :)

Its real simple...Remember, One day and it might be sooner than later, You might just have to rely on one of those farmers to exist...If you think all this is so bad as to have public land to hunt on. Move to Texas and pay for your hunting experience like the rest of us do. Or better yet, Go buy the land that some of us have and then you too can put your own fence up and declare no hunting. This comes at a small price that you dint have a clue about as in real taxes. Quit your griping and make the best out of what you have or quit hunting if its that big a problem. I'm getting off my soapbox now...

amazing these negative responses with contempt for ranchers.

if they have it so good, why are you not there yourself, maybe lacking the knowledge to breed, calv, carefor animals that the population at large depends on to provide nutrition?

i find it narrow not considering the debt, hours worked, lack of respect for those who stick their heads out to make a living which depends on the "market" price which has a history of flux that is seldom seen in other business, cattlemen are business men and they take the risk- give them credit for what they really do rather than demean them from your lack of appreciation of their knowledge, commitment.

My guess is probably a guide and a transplant at that that has no issues with selling 'publicly owned' wildlife and from what it sounds on publicly owned land(BLM &USFS) so doesn't have a clue about actually making a land payment or livestock payment nor doing everything possible any hour of the day to protect his investments from bank foreclosure, mother nature all while being at the mercy of a cut throat market! Big difference between a guide using public land and a rancher to make money eh?

You know, the kind that know everything and always like to let others know how smart they are! Instead of running at the mouth about being such a 'rocket scientist' and how things work why not come help these ranchers push 1/2 of their herd into a big hole and cover it up and see the expressions of joy and success on their faces because they know that big guberment check is already on its way to their bank?
