Sneak Preview--223 Rem

Guys,

WORK IN PROGRESS--Need error checking.

I'm putting the finishing touches on the new .223 Cartridge Guide. This is a huge project that has taken days and days and days.

If you guys could do a quick scan--tell me if you find any display problems, typos, dead links etc.

Also the text for the "Brass" section isn't finished yet.

We are also still soliciting .223 Ackley Imp loads for the 65-90gr bullets.

BTW, I know there is a big gap of white space right above the load chart near the end of the article. That's there for a reason right now and will be eliminated when we go live.

NOTE: this is BETA Test!! Don't go using the loads right away.

PS: Please reply in this thread or by Private Message. For some reason my regular email server is non-responsive this evening.

EXCELLENT! Makes me wanna send another donation! The information you have presented in one place is priceless. It would take several hours to do the research let alone assemble in a coherent usable resource.

Everything that usually displays did, on this PC. The lay out and links all work.

YOU DID GOOD!

Q for you guys:

I haven't included a section on the cheap milsurp "blaster" fmj ammo. I've tried most of the brands incl. Hirtenberger, So. African, Radway, Guatemalan, FNM.

It just seems to me that, with Black Hills Remanufactured running $52/100 or so, with GOOD bullets, it's a better idea to send people in that direction.

I never found any milsurp that would shoot much under 1" at 100 yards.

What about the American Eagle and the Win White box--worth a mention. I've shot that stuff also. American Eagle was reliable, but not particularly accurate. I had some issues with the Winchester, including a couple squibs.

I wouldn't even bother with mentioning the "blaster" ammo, Paul, unless it has worthwhile brass in it anyway.

I read through it last night and the only thing I could find was a missing hyphen in one "close range" somewhere deep in the article.

You know, with every one of the guides, you're setting the bar a little bit higher. The older guides are going to start getting jealous.

Excellent job! I just did a quick scan but could see you put all the pertinent info. in there. I'll just have to contribute again as this site is better than any magazine I've ever subscribed to and they cost alot more. I've had good luck with IMR 4895 with 55 grn. bullets. I always start with this powder at 24.5 grns. working up. It has never failed and I find a combo. that works quickly.

These major Cartridge Guides take a HUGE amount of time--100 man hours or more. Assembling the data, getting bullet samples, writing what would be about 15 full pages in a magazine. So... it may be some months before the next one. Right now the top candidates are 260 Rem, 22/250, 6.5x47/6x47. Now, if Lapua would underwrite 100 hours of work the "x47" guide would be next, but I don't see that happening.

Word to users--if you like these Cartridge Guides, tell our sponsors. We approached some major "big name" companies to help underwrite the project, and they couldn't see the value in it. Hopefully this is a case of "if you build it, they will come."

Excellent resource for .223 information. The only thing I have to add, being an owner of a .223 AI, is a link to .223 AI data at Reloaders Nest, .223 load data also, for that matter.

Paul:

I must say I really enjoyed my read of the .223 Rem vs .223 REM AI Post. There is a lot of information there.

Thanks for the note. At the very bottom of the page I did have a link to Reloaders' Nest .223 Rem info, but I added a second link to their .223 AI page, along with two loads,75 + 80gr) from our own TechShooter.

Oh, great Moderator. This is a great piece of work, wow. It looks good, flows well, has important links, great pictures,I really like all the bullets lined up for comparison) and on and on.

I tried to link to this cartridge guide from the home page and can't find out how.

I also notice that the 6BR is absent from your future list; that leads me to believe that such a guide already exists. I can't find it, either.

I just added a link in the Left Nav bar for "223 Info Page".

That makes a total of FOUR current links to this article from the home page. See Blue arrows below:

Since the site started out primarily as a 6BR site, we distributed the content into multiple areas. Here are some of the main ones:

6BR FAQ: http://www.6mmbr.com/6BRFAQ.html
6BR Reloading: http://www.6mmbr.com/reloading.html
6BR Varmint LOADS: http://www.6mmbr.com/varmintloads.html
6BR Barrel FAQ: http://www.6mmbr.com/page/page/1362234.htm
6BR Improved: http://www.6mmbr.com/6BRImproved01.html

Jason is nagging me to consolidate it all into one page as we've done for other calibers, but right now getting the other calibers up is a higher priority.

Paul: Great work, easily navigated and laid out for easy reference. I would vote the next guide for the 6/6.5X47.
