Snap Caps

I am used to using Snap Caps in just about everything I own and shoot, but there seems to be a lack of snap caps in many of the Bench Rest Calibers, at least that I have so far been able to find.

Do you guys use them?

Where can you buy them for rounds like the 6.5x47L etc. or do you make them from fired and deprimed cases with some material in the primer pocket?

Thanks - Bob

Never used them in my bolt rifles for dry firing practice.

A lot of my rifles are 30 to 40 years+ old. Never seen any ill affects but I know that many "experts" recommend them - just sharing my experiences without using them.

Thanks for the Harbor Arms "Heads Up". Went to their site and now have, what appear to be, really nice snap caps on order from all my Long Range calibers.

I am not a Dry Fire Practicer, but I do not like to leave the springs compressed so I like to use snap caps to soften the dry firing process. Whether or not it really makes a difference I don't know, but I can not see any way it could hurt, so why take the chance.

It probably depends on the gun, but I was taught to de-cock my rifles by keeping pressure on the trigger with the bolt already open and closing the bolt slow. I don't know if its the right way to do it but it works for all of my rifles including my rimfires.

I usually just squeeze the trigger while I let the bolt handle down SLOWLY. Firing pin is released easy and no wasted money on snap caps.
