Smallbore Prone Question

The standard Conventional Prone COF is 160 rounds,1600 possible).

It is fired as follows:

40 shots, 50 yards, A-23 target.
40 shots, 50 meters, A-26 target,can use the A-27 50 meter target reduced to 50 yards).
40 shots, 100 yards, A-25 target.
20 shots, 50 yards, A-23 target and 20 shots, A-25 target, this is the Dewar match).

The standard Metric Prone COF is either 120 or 160 rounds.

It is fired as follows:

40 or 60 shots, 50 meters, A-50 target,can use the A-51 50 meter target reduced to 50 yards).
40 or 60 shots, 100 yards, A-33 target.
20 shots, 50 meters, A-50,or A-51 at 50 yds.) target and 20 shots, 100 yards, A-33 target,this is the Metric Dewar match).

The A-26 is the old ISSF 50 meter target, now obsolete for international competition). The A-50 is the current, and extremely challenging) ISSF 50 meter target.

JER, I know the answeer is probably, "that is what the NRA has set it up", but why a mix of yards and meters in the Match and why so many changes in distance?

No idea. But smallbore is awesome fun, extremely challenging, and will pay dividends when shooting centerfire rifles from the same positions.

Smallbore prone has allowed me to go from the low 180s to the low 190s at 600 with my AR over the course of the fall and winter. First because a smallbore rifle, with its longer barrel time, is brutally unforgiving of any errors in technique, second because I don't have to spend time reloading, third because I don't worry about burning up a $300 to $500 barrel, and fourth because it takes me 1/2 the time, and gas) to drive to my smallbore club than it does to my HP club.
