Small shank Savage action in 6BR with a 100rd ( broke in ??? ) 1:8 twist Shilen

Hello and fairly new here. I have a newly broke in Shilen 1:8 twist on a Savage small shank action in 6BR. Does anyone here have a similar rifle ? What load(s) are you having luck with ? Most of my shooting is at 200yds w an occasional trip out to 1000yds. What would be the best load for this distance and was told I could go down to an 80gr. Should I be looking for flat base bullets ??? Thanks in advance :)

My Savage target action (LRPV) large shank with a 26” Shilen 1:8 twist Is an excellent shooter. The easy button for a 6mm BR is right around 30+/- gn. Varget with either a Berger 108 or Sierra 107 jammed slightly, somewhere between 0.003 to .012 into the lands. Should easily give you sub 1/2 MOA at 300 yards. My particular load of 30.1 gn gives me right around 2800 ft/sec. This load is also excellent out to 600 yards. It will shoot out to 1000 but past 600 the 7 millimeters usually have the advantage bucking the wind.

I was just curious, did the 6.5 mm not compare at all to the 7mm when getting out far?
I shoot a lot of club level F-Class matches at 600 and 800 yards. Generally speaking in calm conditions the 6 BR will compete very well with a 7mm (284 win or 7-6.5 prcw). However when it gets windy the heavier higher BC bullets of the 7mm seem to gain an advantage the further out you shoot. That’s not to say that a very skilled shooter can’t do well with a 6BR.
