Small pocket uniformer

I got my first piece of 6BR brass to uniform / square the primer pocket and just before i get to the bottom of the pocket, the uniformer binds with the case, tried it on several pieces, and its the same thing. Even opened a new lot and same issues, the uniformer has been used for years only for the large rifle pockets and never had an issue. I forgot the name of this uniformer, it it a solid hexagonal handheld black unit with two cutters on each end, one is small and one is large and its adjustable. I rummaged through my drawers and found an old small cheapo uniformer and it slides in fine, but not adjustable. I measured the thickness of both cutters and the one that binds in the end of the pocket is .002" thicker.

I am looking for a better cutter, what would work for the 6BR brass and would not adjustable or adjustable be ideal? I don't want to have the ability not to reach the bottom of the pocket if its not adjustable. Thanks fellas.

21st century makes a really nice adjustable one and pat at pma makes a good one. If you don’t need it adjustable I like the Sinclair which I believe is the same as the Brownells

This is just a pocket cleaner and it’s only handheld so you can’t put it in a tool holder although you might be able to chuck the whole thing in a drill. I believe I have a couple of these not sure if it’s the same brand they work ok but if your doing a lot of brass you will want a power screwdriver or prep station
It will not uniform the pockets however.

Mine is a Dave Holland, but its not adjustable but I do like it.Works great on the Lapua 6br brass that I have. Doesn’t remove much material just enough to square them up.

Mine is a set of large & small from Sinclair, I use them in a drill, these are not the crocagater. I remember when these came out. They are in my opinion the best at cleaning but unless you do something crazy they won't (and are not designed to) take brass off.

Brownells has a uniformer specifically for ppc/ br primer pockets.
Yes it is good but has a radius where the small rifle primer shaft meets the body. On lapua 6br brass it will keep the unit from reaching bottom. You will have to ream the upper edge of the primer pocket so that radius fits and you can’t see light. Once that is done you are good to go

The Sinclairs that I have are not adjustable in any way. I just trust them (Sinclair) to make them right and mine seem to be. I simply uses them on small and large and lo and behold they are right!

+1 on the Sinclair uniformers - I have two, small and large rifle. I purchased the drill attachment and use a low rev drill (i.e. screwdriver type) which saves the wear and tear on my hands when uniforming.

These also work great with the manual handle for cleaning the pockets after the initial uniforming. The Sinclair's are not adjustable and have a shoulder stop so you can't go too deep.

sorry, you must run in a very small circle of shooters.

well actually I have heard that before myself and I’ve shot with a lot of top shelf shooters. I myself uniform everything including primer pockets.....However I don’t know if I’ve ever seen any benefit in group or score by doing my primer pockets it just makes me feel better!

+1 for the Sinclair uniformer - it does both jobs simultaneously, so there's no need for 2 tools. It's not adjustable, so the cut is always right per specification. Since it's made of carbide it effectively lasts forever - I've done tens of thousands of rounds with no sign of wear. I find that the brass moves a bit with each firing so a small amount of brass is removed on second and later uses; left uncorrected, that could lead to problems.

Does Lapua or Norma BR brass need uniformed ??

I use a uniforming tool on Lapua primer pockets after every firing. If nothing else, it helps get that last bit of stuff out of the corners.

FWIW - all small rifle primer pockets are not created equal when it comes to a uniforming tool, as they can vary in depth. For example, the SR pockets in .308 Palma brass are deeper than those of .223 Rem cases. For that reason, a tool that is set up perfectly for .223 Rem won't even come close to reaching the bottom of the pocket in .308 Palma brass. I purchased a separate [adjustable] tool and handle from K+M Precision Shooting Products for my .308 Palma brass:

https://kmshooting.com/product/small-pistol-rifle-primer-pocket-correction-tool/
https://kmshooting.com/product/power-adapter-handle/

This tool came set up perfectly for the primer pocket depth of .308 Palma brass, and I believe it is also adjusted correctly for 6BR brass. In contrast, the [fixed] Lyman tool SR uniforming tool I use with .223 Rem brass is too short for .308 Palma brass as I mentioned above.
