PMA Lapua Small Rifle Primer Pocket Uniformer?

Gentlemen,
I wanted to get your concensus, and I've tried the search function, on the "PMA Lapua Small Primer Pocker Ulimate Uniformer"? I currently use the Sinclair Carbide Primer Pocker Uniformers. That said I believe in the right tool for the job...

Thir page can be found here:

http://www.pmatool.com/pma-lapua-sm...niformer-complete-w-handle-and-power-adapter/

"The small primer pocket in Lapua brass for the PPC, BR and 6.5x47 presents it's own set of problems. We love that they are tight, but they are also on the deep side. Over the years we've struggled with finding the perfect uniformer for tackling these issues, so we set out to make the world's best small primer pocket uniformer for Lapua Brass.
The PMA Ultimate Lapua Small Rifle Primer Pocket Uniformer is a lot pricier than others on the market, but when comparing uniformers features matter. The features built into the PMA Ultimate Uniformer are the result of years of experience and advice from some of the top shooters in Benchrest.
PMA Ultimate Uniformer Features:

  • Small Diameter Cutting End - most uniformers are over-sized by .0015" - .003" in diameter. This prematurely loosens the primer pocket.
  • Depth - most uniformers fall short of uniforming Lapua Small Rifle Primer Pockets. The Ultimate Uniformer uniforms the bottom corners and will cut some of the bottom as well, without making the primer pocket deep enough to have a negative impact on ignition.
  • 1/2" Diameter Shank - the large 1/2" shank prevents the uniformer from digging into the base of your cases
  • Solid Carbide - no adjustments to be made and no chance of losing adjustment
  • Includes handle and power screwdriver adapter or use by itself in 1/2" chuck"
I would very much appreciate your input. I don't mind the $100 this item will run(92.95 plus S&H), however, I detest buying something only to find out I did not need it or I bought the wrong item. Thank you again for your input...

Regards, Matt.

The PMA tool appears to be a fine pocket depth uniforming tool but a bit expensive. I use K&M pocket tools that use an adjustable (but factory preset) carbide end cutter that will last a lifetime for about 1/4 of the price. If you don't mind the cost the PMA tool should serve you very well.

Gentlemen,
Thank you for you input...

Ben,
I've used the Crocogator for years. Tried to get Mr. Dewey to cut it half and thread it to fit in the RCBS Prep Center 15 years ago. He said by the time he got around to it someone else would do it. AFAIK, no one has...;-).

The purposes on the Crocogater, which I have, and the PMA Small Primer Pocket Uniformer are two very different things. Afaik with other carbide primer pocker uniformers...

rardoin,
Concur on the expense. I was largely looking if it was an across the board solid buy or not. Will look at the K&M tool. As I said I have all three Sinclair Carbide Uniformers, hoever, to read the PMA website they are doing something, and designed this uniformer in a way, that no other currently produced similar product does. I don't have a problem with that IF it is accurate.

Obliged, Matt.

Matt, The 21st Century Shooting Primer-pocket uniformer is ground to the new lapua small rifle primer pocket specs, has been for a couple years..........Plus You get the large cutter included . Thanks, John

Thanks Jimcasey01 for the link.

Gentlemen,
Thank you, however, that appears to be adjustable which make me a bit nervous as a duffer when it comes to adjustable carbide primer pocket uniformers... Could anyone comment on that? Do you adjust it to a given number or does it come set? How does that work? Apologize if this is making a mountain out of a mole hill..

THANK YOU for your input by the way. It goes to show why these boards are so very useful.

Regards, Matt.

Btw, I've been using a full carbide set from Sinclair for years, however, it would appear the Lapua small rifle BR primer pockets are tighter and deeper than most standard uniformers...

The K&M comes preset from the manufacturer. They will reset/adjust for you if ever needed. I would not be afraid to use the 21st Century either as a 'user adjustable' unit. You can't go wrong with either IMO.

Sinclair Int'l sell a primer pocket uniformer specifically for Lapua ppc/br. Brass. It cuts 3-4 thousands deeper then there regular sr uniformer. $29.99

Let me share that everything and I do mean everything with the PMA name on it is the absolute best in the industry. You will be hard pressed to fine anything better.

I have plenty of K&M reloading gear and it's good - the SRP primer pocket uniformer however stopped short in my Lap. Palma brass. I bought the PMA Ultimate tool and problem solved. Yes, it is more expensive but personally I think it's worth it.

Interesting, mine cleans up the pockets in Palma Creedmoor converts and the new 6.5 Lapua Creedmoor perfectly (about 400 cases thus far)

Gentlemen,
I would like to thank all of you for your input. It has honestly been invaluable and nice to learn yet again there are many roads to Rome upon all the various toll roads...;-). I'm going to pick up the unit from PMA and give them a try. I've wanted to try their Micro Sizing Die Adjuster as well for a while.

Regards, Matt.
