Small pistol primer availability

I’ve been watching for small pistol primers since August of last year. I stopped at a local gun shop after work and shop owner told me federal is not going to release small pistol primers first 2 quarters of 2021. Has anyone else heard similar rumors?? I reload for myself, 2 sons, son-in-law, and my dad. We shoot 1-2 days a month at home and have been talking about pistol league at local range. Shooting sports is a big part in the family. My wife enjoys having kids, grandkids as much as I like shooting with them. We usually end the day with a 4 wheeler ride.

More than likely all small pistol primer production are going to 9mm/380/38 ammunition. Hopefully you have some 22LR rifles, pistols, and ammo on hand.

they drop at times, but you need to be fast
i have been using a discord server that people post notices too
has helped alot
if anyone is interested

Heard that both Brownells and Powder Vally released primers this morning and were sold out in short order .... minutes

Here’s a place that has them but their price is just up there
Thanks, I seen why they have them. I don’t buy from scalpers. If I did it would be from another shooter who really wanted them but couldn’t refuse my offer and needed $$ more than primers

This entire situation is self inflicted unfortunately. Thinking about a nice bow to learn on until this pile subliminates or is eaten away to nothing by flies. . . . .. I feel for you that shoot benchrest or competition and have no choice or relief in sight.

Some years ago I ran some tests and determined that small rifle primers would work in all my pistols that use small primers. For me, this meant one less type of primer to find and store.

Yep, that’s what I’m hearing! Federal cartridge is about 35 minutes away from me. A bunch of local guys work or have worked there. One told me 60 milligrams compound in small pistol and 64 or 66 in small rifle. I can’t say if he’s right or wrong, just what he told me

I have learned a lot about what's going on in the market place with some of the hoarding and scalping taking place lately... it's maddening but there's little you can do to stop it.

I followed a link to a chat site that literally seems to have thousands of people interacting and notifying the second reloading components or ammo becomes available. They subscribe to availability alerts on every retailer website, get the alert, post it up and instantly everyone starts flooding the sites in a frenzy to but it all up.

I watched (and also tried) as individual notification in the form of links were released for 5,000small pistol primers, LPP, LRP, SRP and the magnums ...... within 2-3 minutes everything was gone. They all then post their "scores" and then proceed to chat about how they don't even need them, reload for most calibers and just horde or sell them. Pictures get posted from guys that have been doing it for months and in some cases you see stacked boxes of 100,000 primers on a table with jugs of powders and projectiles.

It's their money to spend and their pretty savvy about it, but this truly makes it worse for everyone, short term and long term.

This makes sense, by the time I get a notification and I immediately go to the site their already sold out. I’m talking about within 1 minute of receiving the notification it’s already gone. I don’t even bother opening them any more. It’s as though someone from the inside is sending out info before it even hits the emails. That’s perfectly fine I guess but it makes the notifications useless IMO.

Agree.

At least there are guys willing to help out others occasionally rather than hoarding or selling them at ridiculous prices - I seem to recall someone on the board with a rabbit avatar doing something like that recently ;)

This recent surge of gun ownership certainly is changing the landscape of the industry and community .... there will likely be some good and bad that comes along with it ... hope we can steer the behavior toward the good.

Something like Game Stop stock? ;)

The way I've avoided getting caught in panic buying was to start panicking in 1984 and maintaining a certain level of concern for the for the last 36 years.

Like the guys during The Great 22 LR Famine some years back posting pics of a quarter million rounds of 22LR stacked up under their stairs saying "I don't even own a gun but this will be currency after the dollar/world economy/societal collapse."

I have an idea, let's get everyone turned on to cryptocurrencies as the new after-the-collapse currency and soon they'll start dumping their hoarded reloading supplies on the market to finance their crypto...?

A friend told me components and ammo are going up 15% on the 1st of March per CCI and Federal. I cannot verify. Anyone else heard similar?
