Small pistol magnum primers

I received an order and they sent small pistol magnum primers by mistake instead of small pistol primers To try not to go through the hassle of trying to return them or sell them locally what would I have to do to use them in a S&W 40 caliber (or should I say can I use them.) Maybe by reducing the powder but too what amount Thanks

If they are only being used in the 40S&W you can probably get away with using them provided you use the slower burning powders for the cartridge and heavy bullets. The issue that is possible is that the primer can push the bullet into the bore before the powder is completely ignited. That may result in delayed ignition or hang fires. If you get either one it might be a good time to reevaluate your load.
On the other hand you may notice no change at all.

I've never had an issue using mag primers in 9mm/45/40sw. in fact, since I use small rifle primers for 9major, I don't even buy small pistol primers anymore. I use small rifle across the board for everything that uses the small form factor. 357mag/9major/9luger...etc.

I would use the same load and run both across a chronograph to see how much of a difference there is and adjust accordingly.
