Small Floor Safe Recommended?

I am looking for a small safe to bolt to the floor, about 3 cu ft. Does any of you guys have one that you could refer me to where to buy one ?

After a large amount of research, there's really only one choice, I would highly recommend a company called "Sturdy Safe" out of California, family owned and operated, by far the best value for the money spent. These are "real safes "

fire or burglary or both? records or media or firearms (durables) ? easy access or concealed? installation in frame or slab, new construction or retrofit? these are all considerations; but i would be cautious of carrying on too much of a discussion in an open forum....

I popped over to take a look , they look pretty nice... My only thing to add to any thing about home security is to add a home alarm.... If you can limit the time they have to work or look around it really , really helps in any situation... Plus there's extra benefits like a pretty good discount on your home owners insurance and the extra security for you and your family... Once that alarm trips nobody is sticking around to see how long it takes for the cops to show up....

I picked up one off of Craigslist, much more safe than I could have purchased new at half the cost. The life of a safe is pretty long so buying second-, third- or fourth-hand is not a bad idea.

Thank you for al the replies. How good is the electronic lock on a safe ? Is the tumbler type better ?

Electronic safes are fine. I'd suggest taking a look at Sentry safes. They're available at various stores suchs as WalMart, Office Depot, Sam's Club, etc. Although there are certainly differences between different brands of safes that reflect such things as fire resistance time, etc., a safe is a deterrent, nothing more. It is unlikely that the contents will be completely protected from a large building fire, or from a really determined thief with sufficient time on their hands. I have a small (~2 cu ft) Sentry electronic safe that has served very well for many years. If you want to drop well over $1000 on a small safe, you can certainly do that, but I would consider your needs carefully and decide whether what you get in return for the significant amount of extra money is actually worth it to you.

Short safes are a pain in the butt because you have to get down on your hands and knees to open them.

After having a traditional gun safe, I'll never go short again. I bet a vault door on a vault room is even better.

Perhaps a full size gun safe would be a better choice or a Simpli Safe alarm system for the entire house.

If you can fit a tall safe, it might be cheaper. There are a lot more gun owners than people who buy small short safes. A good small safe is probably going to cost more.

I have seen 14 gun Sentry safes for under $400 and they seem to be thick enough to resist some attacks if you bolt them down well. They also have drywall lined interiors which give them a fire rating.

You can buy much better but you pay for it, especially fire rating.

If you are in an area where fire response times are low, I think a basic rating is ok. If you live in a place where you might have to wait for your home to burn completely before help arrives, a really good fire rating might not help and if you have a safe in a basement, firefighting might flood the safe and ruin the contents anyway.

If you are concerned with theft, nothing will resist a motivated thief but bolting down and thicker walls will stop the unprepared or unmotivated.

I seen a Winchester gun safe at Tractor supply for 599.00
What do you guys think about it ?
Sams Club also has a 3 cu ft Sentry floor safe with electronic lock on closeout for 279.00. $50.00 bucks off

I bought a Winchester safe about 15 yrs ago from Sam's...nary a problem. I believe it was made by Granite. I'm not sure who's making then now.

In terms of theft and fire your best bet would be simply insurance. Definitely bolt it down. If you put a small safe in your garage and it's not bolted down your just packing for the thieves. I would just buy something light duty to keep kids and prying eyes out - read this article. For serious thieves and fire IMO your best bet is reimbursement.

I have a Winchester 24 with the S&G tumbler lock, it was made in Texas. At the time some different varieties of the same safe were a product of China, you just have to look at the sticker on the safe.
