Small bolt face calibers????

I'm not particularly "old" per say but the older I get the more I like "easy" with no fuss, and since I'm generally not one to buy into a lot of the marketing hype, unless it actually does something better, so for me, it'd be between the straight 20-222 and 20-223 aka 20 Practical. Also, I'd recommend using at least a 11tw barrel. Nothing like resurrecting a six year old post. :D

If you already own a set of 223 Redding type S bushing dies ,i'd build a 20Practical,11 twist barrel. I have one that is accurate and shoots like a laser . H 4198 or IMR 8208 XBR. IMR 8208 XBR works well in the smaller cartridges.

Like many of you, I have a number of different varmint chamberings, but over the past few years have become totally hooked on 20 cal. Though the 20VT is a great caliber, I got interested in the AI version (20SCC, 20FBI, 20 FireBlaster) and it has become my most favorite round. With 32 V-Max and AA2200, I easily get 4000FPS with .25 accuracy and no significant pressure issues. This little rascal is a laser out to 350 yds with very low barrel heating. The other chambering I really like for a little more power is the 20-223AI with 40 class bullets also at 4000fps easily. Even the FF rounds are great performers shooting 40 gr at about 3750fps with good accuracy. Try it, you'll like it.

Another factory cartridge that could be a real fun one, if Nosler would hurry up and make the dam thing, will be the 20 Nosler. With its rebated rim it'll run on a small bolt face like the 204 but the 20 Nosler has a pretty size advantage in case capacity over the 204 so it should shoot a fair bit faster, especially with the heavier bullets.

The print Nosler has submitted shows the 20 Nosler not just being a necked down 22 nosler and the 20 version actually has a little more case capacity. I've heard their 22 Nosler brass isn't the greatest quality so if Nosler ever decides to do a 20, hopefully the brass isn't sh1t because this could be a fun little gun, kind of a 204 on steroids.

20 cal small bolt face

I think I've had more enjoyment from the standard 221 FB---just accept its limitations
and burn some powder. It's been a demon in the dog towns and tons of fun playing
around on the range.

In the past year or so, I've built a 20 Vartarg and think it'll probably bump the 221 FB
off the top of my list. i've never shot a Vartarg in the dog towns but suspect it would be
a winner.

I don't load and shoot for bragging rights on MV, longer range kills, etc and find the smaller
cases to be great fun.

I am considering-----some day----building a 20 cal on the 220 Beggs round. I've also enjoyed
the 220 Beggs a lot and think a 20 Beggs might be a lot of fun----some day. A different bolt face
but something to consider.

I hope you enjoy your step into the 20 cal world.

It will be a barrel burner if the case capacity compares to a 20BR.
