Smacking two deer with 300 Norma

It certainly has enough recoil and punch to sledgehammer a deer. Very much overkill for the job, With the bullet used I find that I need to be more careful about bullet placement which makes me slower and at the end of the day kills less deer despite a fantastic lack of winddrift. Next year will most likely be a 6XC.

Mine was on a Pre 64 Winchester, 26" #4 Douglas blued barrel. I named her, "Big Titty". Hammer of Thor on deer with a 165g Sierra BTSP. Deer did not run off.

That must have been efficient! I used Hornady 225gr ELD M in order to get the velocity Down, but I found it to require very accurate shot placement (in the "armpit") to avoid too much damage and only past 500 did it slow down enough to leave normal carcass damage. Hitting bones at 1-200 created "bone grenades" whipping up a proper mess.

I went from 338LM to 300NM as it was a much more managable cartridge in a normal hunting rifle. Shaving off 10J of recoil was a really big change. With the benefit of that experience, perhaps I should gone 7mm/ 180'ish grains and taken off almost another 10J. That project will have to be for the future. Right now I have a .30 and can find no excuse for a 7mm. ;)

Edit: The action is a Blaser R8

Cold and wet. Just the way you must like it.

Thanks for sharing the hunt. Educational just for the backdrop and dog alone.

Yup, love the dog, too!

For a goof, I busted out my Norma Improved to fill doe tag on video. 500yd shot is a 'gimme', and the 215Hybrid does not disappoint!!!

Like the cold and wet? Forced to endure is more like it. It would be highly appreciated to hunt somewhere dry and temperate (or at least dry) one of these days...

I have come to the same conclusion: 210-230gr class bullets and the shooting is sooo easy with regards to wind and knockdown.
