Slugging a barrel...

I'm still playing around with the [suspected ] tight bore 22-250 barrel..I loaded up some 223 diameter 45 gr hornet with 8.1 gr of unique..They shot just ok nice str8 line 3 shots up & down about 3 inch spread at 100yds...After that I was just plinking with those loads..I'm going to try to slug that bore..heres the plan ..I'll upset a reg 22 caliber 222 diameter slug & try to get it to go down a very clean lubricated bore with a good steel rod..I have one of the pusher things to fit on a cleaning rod...Think this will work out ..??? mike in ct

The last few issues of Precision Shooting have had a continuing series on barrel slugging by Bill Calfee. These are very informative and would be of great value for your project.

thanks chilli I'll try to find that info...Failing that how about I use my outboard motor water tank...make some super light squib loads & fire into the tank??..ala CSI Play forensic scientist..crime lab guy ???mike

Dave that SS douglas barrel is making me nuts...It is so tight the patches Squeak down the barrel...I have to know if it is normal diameter...224...mike

It is uniformly tight...I have the black plastic jag that comes with the Dewey 22 cal. cleaning rod...I trim the patch to less than a Sq inch...it is easy only if I cut them in half..& have them well oiled up...my old worn out bristle brush is fine but pretty much useless..The new plastic 22 caliber brush is a no go...mike in ct..send me a link or an e-mail with the bore slugging info...i'd really appreciate it ..ML
