Slower node for the Berger 185 BT

For the crowd that shoots the Berger 30 cal 185 BT, what speed is your best accuracy? Read a lot about the upper node range from 2750 – 3000 f/s. Before I go to the range again, is there a slower node around 2570 f/s?

Depends on what powder you are using Paul. But if you are using Varget there is a lower node around 2,550 fps.

If you are using Reloader 15, then the lower node is around 2,580 fps.

I don't shoot a 308, but according to QuickLOAD that's about what it is.

Hope that helps.

No real personal input on this particular question, but, I have noticed that a lot of cartridges all fall into nodes that are about 120fps higher or lower. For example, I shoot a .223/90VLD combo and last year I was pushing them 2830fps and this year I am going easy with a very accurate load at 2715. When I shot a .308/155, I noticed I had a node at 2950 and another at ~2825. I have noticed this with other peoples posted data as well. Nothing concrete, just thought it was interesting.

I'm shooting the Berger .308 185 grain BTHP Long Range out of my GAP Hospitaller with 24 inch barrel @ 2610 fps with an 11 fps E.S. using Lapua brass, CCI 250, 43.3 grains of Varget seated to max mag length of 2.885. Not at all hot but super accurate. Shooting very small groups at our ranges max yardage of 822 yards off the bench. I love this bullet for the longer yardages. For 500 meters and under the new Berger 175 grain Tactical OTM bullet is fantastic.

I would have to agree with All above post. I would have to say it is honest info! I run a 30" barrel with the 185 berger LRBTs. My avg. for 10 shots is 2745. So yes there is a node at or around 2750.

For a lower node. As Dreever said 2610 is exactly my Avg. It is extemely accurate. I haven't yet but plan to use this load for midrange. I'm a little concern with using this load at 1000? 2750 doesn't seem to be as accurate as 2610, but the game changes when you move past the 800yrd line for the 308. At 1000 2750 will give me scores in the 190s. I can honestly say the only reason my scores have not consistinly been in the 190s is due to the nut behind the butt! Not the load, vel, or gun!

I am not sure of the velocity but I have found in my 28" obermeyer barrel that 40.o grains of varget hammers for me. It shoots good with other brand 185's too. This is a very mild load and I shoot it at 600.
