Slow Twist 6BR???

I'm finally down to picking out the chambering I want....just hard to pick ONE

I guess its really not SLOW....but.....I'm thinking a 6BR in a 10 Twist.

Here's what I want.....

Ability to shoot light bullets (55-60) for prairie dogs, punching paper and just some fun.....
Ability to shoot heavier bullets (Up to 90) for ranges out to a MAX of 600 yards, MAINLY to a distance of 300
Low recoil
Superb accuracy

Am I on the right track here?

Suggestions?

Comments?

I THINK I am, just wanted some opinions!

Thanks!

OH! And what kind of velocity would a guy get with a 55-58 bullet, 26" tube in a 6BR...thanks

I have a 14 twist BR it will outshoot most any caliber but ppc . But a close sec.
I love my BR 14 twist shoots 68 & 70 gr . You want go wrong.

Do you shoot it at any longer ranges?

If so how does it perform?

i shoot out to 200 but it will go beyond. Best over all cartridge out there. Easy to load and shoot.
I shoot a hart all custom barrels shoot good though.

Sounds good thanks!

I have a Dasher with an 8 twist already thus the idea of getting a faster twist BR

Try 85 gr HPBT Sierra in that 10 twist, you will smile. I have a 10 twist and shoot 65 Bergers to 95 gr BIB.

I shoot my 6BR out of a 1 in 12" twist and can shoot 85 grain Sierra Gameking's and 87 grain Vmaxes out of it and still stabilize. Now I do live at 5000 ft of elevation in AZ so that may not work at a lower elevation. 55's shot out at about 3800 fps shoot plenty flat out to 300 and even 400 yard's. For a Varmint rifle the 70 grain bullets do quite well and you can push them to 3400-3500 fps with the right powders and I have hit Prairie Dogs out to 600 yards with the Sierra 70 grain Blitzkings and Nosler BT's. My go to Varmint bullet is a 65 grain V-max, shoots good and the terminal effects have to be seen to be believed. I found it is hard to out shoot the 68 grain boutique bullets out to 300 yards.
I have been using N133 and IMR 8208 with 68 grain Berger's and it is a hard combo to beat.

The best shooters in my 300 yard varmint league are shooting a 10 twist 6BR. They are loading 4895. Most people shoot Varget. I'm not one of the best, but I'm shooting a 10 twist 6BR using the Berger 87 Hunting VLD pushed with 30.5 grains of 8208XBR. It works.

Thanks guys, I think my ideas were plenty confirmed here.

One last question......Barrel length???

26"??

My last barrel was a 6BR 10 twist. It would shoot everything up through the Berger 90BT. It absolutely would not shoot the Berger 95s even at 4800" . Later! Frank

Hi xs,,,if you havent got the bbl yet,,,get a 8 twist,,,,,there are so many good 105 class bullets available that it is nuts to not be able to shoot em ,,,and as Frank says the 95 VLD's are marginal to bad with a 10 twist,,and they are a bullet that is terrific with 8 twist,,,,I have shot thusands of 60-80 gr bullets in 8 twist with no problems and great accuracy,,,,Roger

Did mine in a 12 twist for the 80 grain bergers and it was great shot in the 2's. Then went to the 68's and never looked back, they shoot great and with the extra speed I'm loving it for prairie dogs out to 600. Shoots almost as flat as my swift and easy to load for

Very nice! I'm guessing it was those flat base 80 grainers?
