Slow creedmoor

Hi all
I'm currently loading 142gr smks for my 6.5 creedmoor with 43gr of N555
Thist combination shoots at 2647 fps and is pretty consistent with good velocity numbers and 0.5-06 moa groups
I haven't really tested other powders I had a little n540 but that wasn't great , I am pretty content with the load but I was wondering if H4350 or N550 or even N150 would give better velocity or the barrel is just a slow one

Very possible it would but it would have to be tried in your barrel to know for sure.
I'm running 100 fps faster than that with h4831 sc trying to go slow but it easily gets to 2800 with that powder.
I'd say my barrel is obviously fast but that's my point, they're all different.

I have 2 6.5 creedmoor rifles. One shoots 140 vld bergers with h4350 at 2730 fps. The other one im using 140 eldm with R16 at 2831fps. The first one is a 28 inch barrel. The second is a 24 inch barrel. I dont know if R16 runs that much hotter, or i just got a fast barrel.

I'm getting 2775 fps out a 26" using 140 Berger VLD's and 42.1 gr H4350 and pretty consistent high .2X 3 and 5 round groups. As others say, your barrel will get difference mileage. I'm not a velocity chaser, but I would prefer closer to 2800 than 2600.

Some 5 years back ran a ladder test on 2 different factory 6.5 Creedmore guns and both were 39.9 and 40.0 gr of Reloader 16 with Berger 140 vlds! If I remember I believe depth was 2.851” They weren’t my guns just helping a friend! Both guns would run 2”-2.5” groups at 600 yards!

Slow hits are better than fast misses. Paper or critters will never know the difference. I have done load work on several 6.5 Creeds for people that have been slow in that same velocity range. Shoot great but slow.

I see your liking the short cut, great powder for the cartridge.
I finally got around to trying H4350 in a Creedmoor of a buddies, let's say that I have mixed emotions on its performance. The load hammers on paper, but the ES/SD ain't pretty to say the least
Numbers are so bad it would have the number tuners swearing it will never shoot.

24" Howa not sure of the diameter

Could just be a slow barrel but with a 24" you should be able to get to 2700fps pretty easy. Can you get H4350 or the other powders? If so I would try some H4350. It's all I have used since 2008 loading for the Creedmoor and no issues getting higher velocities and accuracy and it's very temp stable.

I actually bought a tin and sold it off before I used it
N555 gives me an SD of 10 over 15 rounds
So it's fairly consistent and I rarely get groups larger that 0.55 moa
Plus the 50 or 100 fps really doesn't make a practical difference
Yet I'll probably tinker with it

If you are happy with your load then why are you asking? LOL I get single digit SDs with H4350 and where I want to be with my handloads. If you can try some but if you are happy then load and go shoot some matches.

you probably have a short barrel. Factory Howa is 24". I run 26 and 27" in my 6.5 creed rifles. I am getting 2770 with 42 of N555, so...

Never ending question of
What if it's better

Yup you will always have to me until you try but at one point you have to say this is what I am using and use it. That’s what I do with H4350.

So I went out and tested H4350
41.5 Gr gave 0.29" group with an SD of 6 at 2682
But my resident carbon ring which I evicted 100 rounds ago
Giving me massive pressure when I retested H4350 with velocity at 2747 and a primer half way out
It's a possible back up
But I'm going to stick with N555
I guess you only know once you test for yourself
