Sliding chamber .300 Jarrett Seater Die?

Gentlemen,
I've been considering a .300 Jarrett for a while. One of the sticking points is that it is not available with Competition Type Dies. I can find sizers, however, no luck with a sliding chamber seater die. Redding is currently doing NO custom dies at the moment for the record.

I would not make this an issue, however, I can't get my mind around a heavy barreled .300 Jarrett Long Ranger that is built on a Single Shot Action, intended to deliver a 4 inch group at 800 yards, and I've got to work with Standard Redding Dies. I just know TIR is going to be all over the place...

Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Regards, Matt.

Do you have access to the reamer used to chamber your rifle? If so I would go with a generic .30 cal sliding chamber that is relatively close to your caliber in length and then have your reamer ran into it.

Worse case scenario it there were nothing close you could probably ask either forster or Whidden if they have sliding chamber blanks.

Or just talk to Whidden as he may be able to build from scratch a sliding chamber seater for you in the event the body of the die needs to be oversized to accommodate the custom sliding chamber.

Matt,
Contact Redding and see what the part number is for a BLANK sleeve and what Competition die you need to buy that can be used with your cartridge. The blank sleeve can be reamed by a gunsmith to fit the cartridge and installed in the Competition die. Most vendors do not stock blank sleeves but may be able to special order them from Redding for you. Its the fastest way and your gunsmith can use the same chamber reamer he used on your rifle to ream the sleeve. You may want to contact him first before ordering to see if he will do this for you.

Patch 700 has a good post if you want to use or have a Forster or Whidden seating die with sliding sleeve ! Redding, Forster, and John Whidden are good people to work with. Cant go wrong with any of them in my opinion.

Gentlemen,
I GREATLY appreciate your input... The only kicker with having the smith ream the sliding chamber is that the work is being done by Kenny Jarrett. I hesitate to think what he will charge...(grin)

Matt. This is an expensive game we play. In for a penny, in for a pound. Enjoy your new rifle. Regards JCS

I simply used a .300 Win Mag sleeve from a Redding Comp. die and ran the .300 Jarrett reamer in it. Worked fine. Wore out 4 barrels using it.

I believe the Jarrett is based off the 8mm Rem case. While not common, you might find one in that caliber or 7STW and change out the seating stem. I also believe that you can run .300 Weatherby brass in the .300 Jarrett and while it will fireform, the seating die might work easily without mods as you are only holding the case in alignment.

Matt,
Get a blank sleeve, send it to Kenny and life is good. No fooling around trying to get something to work. Besides , Christmas is coming and Kenny may need the money for presents! lol !
