Skiing with a 221Fireball; bird hunting

A novelty hunt for most of you , but this is the only hunting I'm able to do during the lockdowns.

It was a bit difficult to capture the full story due cold and steepness, but there's enough to show the gist of it.

Since this film, the rifle have been sent back to the gunsmith for a thinner barrel profile and fluting. Should be done in about four weeks time.

Hope you enjoy!

fantastic!! I had to put on my winter coat, hat and gloves while watching.. Too cold for this ole boy.. Well done sir!!

Yeah, it gets kinda cold sometimes. :D

Actually got a nip of a frostbite from having to remove the gloves shooting the first bird.
Right now I have rain on top of snow and it's supposed to turn to sleet tomorrow. It's a fairly depressing season for me. It's a good time to come on this forum and read about a varmint hunt somewhere warm.

Great videos there, Roe. Never considered my FB's for bird hunting, so "there you go". We're warm weather varmint shooters here, so seeing you out there in the snow with your rifle actually made me shiver a bit here in the warmth of my office at home.

Keep 'em coming, very enjoyable and interesting.

Very nicely done!!!
I can't walk a straight line on a dry concrete during the summer, here you are with your gear, on top of the mountain with your skis.

Thanks guys. You get used to the gear, it kinda "sorts itself" when you figure out where it needs to be to work.

Yeah, all US sources I could find on the fireball seems to focus on the varmints and shooting 35-50gr bullets. Here it's mostly used in the north and with 50-55gr bullet. Swedish legislation (I live next to the border and hunt Norway/Sweden) has curious paragraph that limits the transport of centerfire rifles on a snowmobile to basically 22 Hornet/221 Fireball or smaller. So these two cartridges plus 17 HMR/ 22 Mag has a fair following amongst the winter hunters.

I went to centerfires as I had precision issues with my 17 HMR. Will never go back!

Just saw 5 willow grouses during my 17km back country ski trip. Beutiful birds and luckily it seems that they are coming back again to my hunting grounds. But I think that it takes still lot of time that hunting willow grouse is allowed here again. Just have to take trip to Sweden or northern part of Finland. During winter hunting season I was able to shoot one black grouse, after 12km skiing :)
