Skeletonzing an action

I'm wanting to make a extremely light hunting rifle..Most likely .260 or 6mm Rem. Anyways I have seem some actions that have be skeletonized. I am using a Win 70 LA. S..In all actuallity how much weight will it drop and does it affect the action???

You would be better off with a real short light weight barrel and stock assembly than cutting into a action.
Cutting into the action in certain places will certainly weaken it a bit I would think...

You can lighten them, but it is cheaper and easier to do what preacher suggested.

This is my Grandson's 30BR hunting rifle. It has a Brown Precision 16 oz stock and a #2 contour 20" barrel. When you are a sophmore football player and benchpress 300lbs., you don't need a light rifle. He did need a light one 6yrs ago and he won't let me redo it.

Butch that's exactly what I'm wanting...Time and Money won't be a problem as I'm helping a smith in his shop so I'll do most of the work myself. He had never done it and really didn't know much about skeletonizing one. Thanks, Butch..

Thats a nice work, but for the .260, you could beter start it from a short action than from a long one..The weight saving starting from there aready...

Don't think I can get the 140 amax seated as far out as I would like in a SA..

Run a wyatts extended box and you will have no problems with the 140 a-max in the short action, I run a .120" lead with my 260 match reamer, works great with the wyatts and a-max.

I can't find where Wyatt's make a ext. mag box for a Win SA.

sorry i missed the part where you said mod 70. New advice light and model 70 don't really go together. I would find a different action.
