Sk lr match gold ballastics

New rifle and trying to optimize ammo, tried several brands, sk lr match gold, zeroes at 50yds with 0.4 average, chronographed 15 rounds today, sk web site says velocity at 0 yds is 1099, I measured 5 yds out. First one measured 945, rest in order 1052,1033,1047,1061, 1071,1054,1079,1068,1068, 1070, 1060,1047,1065. Throw out first shot, average 1047, question is this normal velocity findings? Does a cold barrel affect velocity? All shots were within .5 at 50 except first one was 2 inches low, thanks for reading and replying

Well, "normal" depends on a few factors, to include length of barrel, factor custom barrel match barrel, etc. And yes, a cold barrel can affect velocity and accuracy depending on the lube on the bullets, as well as the diameter of the bore to some extent. Note too that being that far from the muzzle, those numbers don't quite represent the MV and actual MV's will be faster.

I assume when you said "sk lr match gold" the "lr" is for Long Range??? Anyway, here some data from my spreadsheet you might find useful (those with the gun listed as Ruger Precision RF and +S are mine using a Magnetospeed):

Many people get really invested in these numbers that are published by manufacturers and in ballistics tables but what they have to realize is that those numbers are valid under the exact parameters they were tested. I never really pay much attention to them and just focus on what it’s doing in my particular set up on a given day.

The actual real world numbers will almost certainly always vary depending on the equipment and conditions they are shot at by you in the field. They may be close, or they may vary wildly from the published data. Maybe both depending on the different days you shoot.

What I’m getting at is that basically, that data is a guideline, not a hard and fast rule.

BTW, I just recently got done going through a couple bricks of SK and Wolf. Found most of the individual rounds weighing close each other in the mid range, but there were a small percentage on either side of the range that were extremely outside of that average. Could easily account for your first round.

First round of a .22 rf with a clean barrel or if the rifle has not been fired in 1/2 hour or more is notoriously unreliable for accuracy or speed. ALL competitors that can will fire one or more "sighters" to settle the barrel in.

I'd like to know what ammo the OP is referring to - SK LR Match has been around for a year or more, but I've never heard of nor seen anything labeled as "LR Match Gold".

I received samples of five lots out of the 1st shipment of LR Match to test, and was very disappointed with the results of the first four lots at 100yds out of a V22 with 22" Bartlein Kukri-contour bbl. But that last lot shot good enough to convince me to order a case of it. Testing all five lots, out of both my V22s, over a chronograph while shooting groups on steel at 215yds later the same day confirmed that the lot I'd ordered had the best ES/SD numbers of the five lots, and that it shot the best 10rd group at 215yds.

Still working on finding right ammo, beginning to settle on SK lr match. Here is 25 shot at 50 yrs, also, 10 shot Eley semi auto, one flier but rest 18mm height, 15 mm wide, to shoot 25 shot tomorrow, ran out of daylight,

I had a very similar question as you after shooting tonight. My rifle is an Anschutz 54:18 MSR action with a Benchmark 2 groove 1/16.5 twist barrel at 22". I am into a case of SK match that I lot tested back in 2012 and am averaging 1052fps at 5 feet from the muzzle.

As a person spends more on ammo (higher end lot tested) what can one expect to achieve with SD and ES? With centerfire reloading my goal is single-digit ES.
