Sizing Cases

:confused Hey guys I have a little problem, I must say that this is the first. when resizing my 6.5 cases, I am putting a small dimple in the case on the up stroke. I cleaned the die and I lube the cases. I also put a dab of graphite lube around the case mouth and I still have a hard sticking on the up stroke that puts a dimple in the case. what do you think the problem could be guys? Help!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any chance of a photo of this dimple your getting ?
Remember the old saying- A picture is worth a 1000 words .....

I assume the dimple is appearing on the shoulder. I assume that you are FL sizing to bump the shoulder. Too much lube would be my 1st thought also except that I was having the same problem sizing my 6BR brass.
I normally neck size until I feel I need to bump the shoulder. No problems with Lapua brass but, when I FL size Remington brass, I would get a dimple on the shoulder. Maybe the brass, maybe the die. I have a feeling that it's the die but since it works well with the Lapua brass I'm giong to leave it alone.
Right now if I had to guess on your problem, I would say that your die needs a little relief in the shoulder area. Call up your die maker, explain the problem and see what they have to say. When you lube, use only die wax and only lube the web area of the brass. Avoid getting lube on the shoulder area.
If your using spray on lube, stop!

:) Hey guys I am using imperial case lube. You're probably right about using too much. I think I am using a little too much. I finishing sizing the rest this afternoon. I put a little graphite in the inside edge of the necks. I didn't have as bad of a problem as I did before. I cleaned my die with some Kroil oil. What die lube should I be using?
I have some new lapua brass that I have never sized. The cases I have is some winchester that I normally do all of my testing with. Question, do you guys recommend trimming neck length wise and tuning the necks, inside and outside) down on lapua brass? I have read that lupua is normally concentrically form and there is no need to. How should I go about preparing my new brass for it's first fire forming?

I like to fire-form brass before any so called,match-prep) or,case uniformity). New unfired brass will as a rule be manufactured to meet ANSI-SAAMI minimum tolerance/dimensions,head-space). How much will each of the cases fire formed in your particular chamber change in length and dimension to meet your particulate chamber head-space? Will the new UN-fired brass have to blow forward .006, .008, .013 to correctly head-space? How much will each individual case in temper spring-back from your particular chamber dimensions? My personal opinion before any case to case uniformity work can be done and accountable the brass case has to be fire-formed to the particular chamber to get the in ital expansion and contraction accounted for. Why uniform primer pockets, re-size, trim to length, neck turn brass that will change the first time it is fired in a particular chamber? Head space, dimensions, tolerances have now all changed. Personal point of view. Good luck however you proceed. Lane
