Site Contributors

Just clicked on all the latest sale and trade items on the right side of the screen. I believe only two out of thirteen shown were site contributors. I would hate to see this site shut down for lack of support. I'm wondering if there needs to be a voluntary percentage set on sold items to be paid to the site? Perhaps in conjunction with a minimum 25 posts on the forum to sell or trade items? All of this would no doubt hurt the number of items available to purchase. In the past, I have seen contributors post that they would not purchase from non contributors. Unfortunately, that has not helped. For myself, that would be like biting my nose off to spite my face. Come on sellers and information gatherers, anti up.

Timeout raises a good point. Just as a test, I went to the guns/actions classifieds areas and clicked on 10 listings. Only one was from a Site Contributor. Hmmm.

Consider this, if you sell a $2500.00 rifle via Gunbroker.com, you'll end up paying $44.38 in transaction fees! That's on ONE gun sale. Likewise, if you sell a scope via eBay you'll pay significant fees.

Maybe we continue to allow free listings but non-contributors would have limits on photos and their ads would disappear after 48 hours. Site Contributors would have unlimited photos and longer ad life. Just a thought.

The bottom line is that if we can raise more funds we can provide more content (stories, tests, photos, videos) for our site users. To put things in perspective, one Blog site for a National organization has a four-man staff, plus a substantial travel budget, plus "free" hosting/tech work. They don't do gear tests, or offer long feature articles, or run a forum. We offer a Blog, hundreds of feature articles, an active Forum, Free classifieds. If we could add one more full-time staffer we could deliver 50% more original content on a regular basis.

Gunbroker Fee Structure
$0 - $25 Sale: 5.0% of the final value

$25 - $1,000 Sale:
5.0% of the first $25 ($1.25)
plus 2.5% of the remaining value

Over $1,000 Sale:
5.0% of the first $25 ($1.25)
plus 2.5% of the amount between $25-$1000 ($24.38)
plus 1.25% of the amount over $1,000

Fee on $2500.00 rifle = $1.25 + $24.38 + $18.75 = $44.38

Thanks for you interest!

Last I checked, EvilBay skims 10% off the top, unless you qualify for a volume "store" discount, whereupon they'll cheerfully take only 9%. So, if memory serves, that $2500 rifle will net you $2250.

Joe.....nice to see you here again,
Chuck
Thanks Darrin. Got stuff to sell as I am leaving the "group" shooting sport. 85 now. It is time. Everything goes.

The maker of best cartridge boxes I have ever had.

Gonna keep making cartridge boxes?

Hello Dusty,
Yup...and thank you for your kind words in the past. As you know, I will make a cartridge box for anything one might have so long as it does not exceed oal of 3.25. and most any configuration. That material is hard to come by.
This was never about the money from the beginning, but rather the notoriety. It has been more than a great ride with customers from around the globe , and especially all of the great people I have met from shooting this sport. I will miss that a great deal. What an education...meeting folks from ALL walks of life. Don't know where else a fella could find that. Got me a new dog that has become close to me and me him. Don't want to go away for several days anymore. I will spend more time in my garden and watching my peach trees grow.
Best to all of you,

Joe

Although you cant sell rifles on ebay, the last I checked, by the time I was done with "FEES" and PayPal it cost me 17% of my sales.
