Sister-Site Name Options

Forum Boss

Administrator
Hey guys, we've been running a poll on a name for a sister-site, basically just an alternate home page. We've seen that most of our regular users don't want to change a thing, but first-time visitors and sponsors tell us they are always surprised to log in and find a wide variety of information, not just 6mm BR Norma stuff. So, we're proceeding to offer an alternate portal.

Take a look at these options. We added a new one,not in the survey) because some folks said all the options were too long. The new option is XRingRifle.com. What do you like best?

Being one of many Aussies that frequent this site, I would vote against any move to include the term "CALIBER" in the domain name.

As WE all know, the correct spelling is "CALIBRE" :):):)

Having made my smartarse,or should that be smartass) comment above, my affirmative vote goes to accurateguns.com

BTW, XRingRifle.com would suggest that the site favours target disciplines over varmint shooting. I take it you are looking for a truly generic, impartial name?

ontarget.com

James,

That's a very good name. But, unfortunately, like PrecisionRifle.com, AccurateRifle,s).com and many others it's taken.

We welcome any and all suggestions though. If you want to check a domain name first, you can do that quickly at http://domains.yahoo.com

Re XRingRifle.com -- nope, there is no intended bias to match rifles vs. Varminters or "fun guns". We just wanted to try something shorter and, maybe) easier to type.

Hi

I think that what ever the site is called we are all going to visit it!

There would definitely be a link from this site.... so if a big name is an issue... type in 6mmbr.com and link to the new one.

Accurateguns.com sounds good though!

It would be good to maybe keep this site to the 6mmbr, PPC's and so forth!

What's wrong with the way it is? If you want information on a 6mmbr, you know where to go. I understand that there have been numerous additions to this website that are deserving of recognition but that is bonus of visiting this site. Unless there is some reason that 6mmbr violates and needs to be changed? I see no reason to change it. Just MHO, Exhaust3

I actualy think RiflePrecision.com sounds pretty good because that is what every one tries to do precision shooting with there rifles. The site is not about shotguns or handguns just Rifles, even though i shoot both).

Well i lean towards Accurateguns.com as that is what we are trying to achieve then it is upto the shooter to do his bit but with out an Accurate gun to start with you don`t gave a hope.
Accurate rifles would have been better but it is taken i believe.
But what ever as they will be linked and if they have the same forum it dosen`t realy matter.

Exhaust,

You raise a valid point. There's nothing wrong with the name per se. However, we've received a lot of comments from people to the effect "well I heard about your site but I don't shoot a 6BR so I didn't check it out." Or, "Wow, I finally got around to checking out the site and it really covers a lot of different calibers." Also we've had sponsors tell us "We have a limited budget and we can't support caliber-specific sites. Call us again when you have a broader audience base."

The site itself will pretty much remain the same--with the primary focus on 6mm and 6.5mm ultra-accurate cartridges, and all the 6BR derivatives. But, hopefully by incorporating an alternative entry portal, home page) we can attract more links and more sponsors.

I find your comments quite interesting Mr. Moderator. It surprises me that would be sponsors use that line. I personally feel that what this site has to offer is no different than BR.com. I started visiting these sights for the valued information in which they provide. I am not a BR shooter at this time and may never be but the information that is found on this sight sometimes blows me away. It never stopped me from visiting. I just recently started shooting a 6BR but it never stopped me from visiting this sight. Is accuracy not the same for all guns? The equipment may be different but in the long run accuracy is accuracy in my mind.
I say stay as is.

Wait a minute. Maybe 10ring.com. I think at one point in time everyone brags about how super accurate there guns are! At any given time we strive,I do) for it.

I am a newer user of this site. I visited this site the first time to learn more about accurate rifles not just the 6mmBR. Information gained here is tremendous. Due to information gained I may join the ranks of 6BR shooters.

Sister site vote is the XRing option.

Yo - After prowling aroung the web a few years I can say that the site is still unique in concept and execution. Nowhere else have I seen the collection of in depth information from as wide a variety of authoratative sources. Most the other sites rely one the forums and the members therin to dispense information and unless someone BTTs a given subject, it is rapidly out of sight and search functions return too much to readily sort through.

That said success brings it's own problems with it and you are entirely correct that the name 6mmbr does tend to leave the rest of the chamberings out of sight of the casual browswer. A new portal would solve some of that, although it might require a bit of a change in the appearance of the site to give equal billing to all the other cartridges. Given the plethora of cartridges used in competition it could be interesting not to get overly complicated. Ahhh, the travails of good design.

So, maybe

Rust,

Thanks for the comments. Well, if you've looked at the new mast-head, we "bit the bullet" as they say, and have activated "AccurateShooter.com" as an alternate portal.

Everything will keep working normally--your bookmarks, the site navigation. This just gives us a more generic title. We added the second site name to emphasize that the site has grown to include a wide variety of calibers and disciplines. If you check the 55 gun of the week stories, you'll see everything from 20PPC single shot pistols to 30-caliber F-class guns.

We'll stay true to our mission of "Accuracy Above All".

The three most popular choices were AccurateCalibers.com, AccurateShooter.com, and RiflePrecision.com. A lot of folks liked RiflePrecision.com, but it doesn't really roll off the tongue, it puts the site in the second half of the alphabet, for link lists), and we don't just write about rifles.

The main purpose for the name addition is to help the site gain more sponsorship so we can start paying writers and testers. Numerous potential sponsors said they liked the site, but they don't work with caliber-specific websites, so no deal. The alternative "AccurateShooter.com" portal should diffuse those objections.
