single stage presses

hi getting ready to get a press ......any advantage to the rcbs summit over the old classic rock? other than i can think the 2' shaft would be better for necking down.....any suggestions on these or others appreciated.....will be reloading LC match ammo thanks

Only thing I use the Summit for is knocking out spent primers! Tried it for sizing brass, It sucks.

Thanks in the old days i had a pair of chuckers i was loading 2-3000 rounds a year ....only loading 308

I've got an old Rock Chuck that I leave set up for my Piggy-Back Progressive to load pistol shells. Everything else is done on a couple of RCBS Reloader Special/Junior types. They have served well for everything I do including 7 Mag. I still see these little "O" type presses for sale at our local gun show for 50ish bucks. -- pretty much all a guy would ever need for the basics. jd

Same here , hate to say it but I use my green press to either knock out Primers so I don't get my Dillon all filthy , it's alot easier to clean up or for loading large Rifle on because it only takes two dies..... Everything else is on the Dillon these days...

To the OP my rockchuker supreme has never let me down for pistol or rifle....

I use a LEE Classic Cast for everything but bullet seating. I ground the ears off the link rods so it now is a cam-over press and works with my custom Collet dies even better. I also use stepped case holders to control full length sizing with a short body die.
Works great and doesn't break the bank.

Been using a RCBS Rockchucker for over 40 years. Rifle, Pistol......I load over 2000 rounds a year. Does a great job for me. I use a Harrels Powder measure and an electronic scale. I could get something else but this suits me just fine. I do use a Wilson Seater Die with an Arbor Press for all my seating. Work great..

I've been using a single stage RCBS Jr. purchased in the late 60's to reload rifle and pistol. It's simple to use and I like simple. It's a strong press with an "O" ring design.

I stop using the primer feed tube 20 years ago and began using a Sinclair Hand Primer for more control and precision in priming.

I shoot about a 1,000 rounds of center fire rifle per year and about 1,200 rounds of center fire pistol. I find a single stage press perfectly adequate for my purposes.

Get any of the single stage Redding presses, and you are set for life. Made in USA as well. The RCBS RC presses are good enough, but not as good as the Redding models. I have , and use, both. Unless you can find a 70's or 80's model RCBS RC press, get the Redding and smile every time you use it.

I've been using a Rock Chucker for decades. IMO, it's a classic, the standard against which all other presses are judged. I use it for whole host of rifle cartridges and early-on in my reloading career I used it to reload handgun cartridges too. Now, I load only rifle rounds on the RC.

When I got seriously into handgun shooting, I got an RCBS Pro 2000 which I dedicate to handgun cartridges. It is good but not great.

Save your money for good dies and buy a Lee Classic Cast press. Great press made in the USA. The primer mess is enough for me to never own another Rockchucker. Personally I’m a Co-Ax fan and owner but they’re expensive and hard to find in stock. I’ve owned all three presses I mentioned. If I didn’t own a Co-Ax and couldn’t afford one I’d buy another Lee Classic Cast.

Yeah...the Redding UltraMag press. I got one of the first 50 shipped from AcuSport when they introduced them new in 1986. Got it for $86.00 dealer introductory special price. Should have bought two.

The RS gets used for small scale rounds. I got that A2 at a yard sale 15 years ago......(you better sit down.):D The old gal had TWENTY bucks written on it. It needed paint, so I got it powder coated at my work. They don't make 'em like that anymore.

Still like my A-4 and I have six of them.

I have Forster Co-Ax. Love it best. Also have classic and LNL progressive.

But best single stage for the money at this time is either the new MEC or the Frankford Arsenal’s new coaxial press which is basically the generic script version of the Forster.

what makes you think either one of those are top quality presses? the only mec we've got a report on was so crooked it was unusable out of the box. frankford arsenal is a modern day lee. if we're throwing opinions out there about the best press for the money i'd say its an RCBS partner. the millions of those out there in service for many years and still going is a testament. im not an rcbs guy at all but that's the best press for the money.
