Single feeding a long action cartridge into a short action.

Stupid question here . But can you single feed a long action cartridge into a short action receiver.
Like for example single feeding a 30-06 into a savage model 12 action with 30-06 barrel attached . Is their enough bolt travel to eject the cartridge?

Yes, should work just fine. I built a rifle a couple years ago that was a Remington single shot action (short action) and chambered in 30-06 with long 230 Bergers. Empty cases ejected fine, loaded rounds I had to hit the bolt release and pull the bolt out. Remember only having to do that once or twice though, so it wasn't a big deal.

If he's using a model 12 action chances are it's not a tube gun shouldn't be a problem. I have a bench gun on a short action 300 win mag and I can't remember the last time I pulled a loaded round out of it. Not really an issue.
