Sinclair oal gage & comparator ?????

Hi all.
I am new to realoding and i have a question about case oal. I have a sinclair oal gage and a sinclair comparator. My question is once I get a comparator reading with the oal gage can I use that reading to load differnt brands and weights of bullets since I am measuring off of the bullets ogive. My thinking may be flawed on this. Owever I can see where if I were to measure cse oal to the bullets tip it would be specific to that weight and brand of bullet. Since the comparator measures at the ogive were the bullet touches the lands wouldnt that mesurement stay constant regardless of bullet style or weight? Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you for our reply's.

The ogive length will change from bullet to bullet depending on the set up from the factory..
They will also change with different weights, and manufactures.....
Even the lot numbers from the same manufactures will be different at times, concerning ogive lengths....

texasman,

You're right. On most types of bullets, especialy hollow points), it's more accurate to verify consistent OAL settings by measuring from the bullet ogive rather than from the bullet tip. However, as Preacher said . . . . different lots of bullets can vary quite a bit due to the ogive variation. I have a some articles about this on our website.

I think that I know what you are saying. Yes, once you find the COAL,Comparator Over All Length) for the rifle, you can use that measurement,to the ogive) to set up other bullets. Your OAL will change from bullet to bullet, your COAL will not.
