Sinclair NT-4000; I have a question for the experts....

I bought a used Sinclair NT-4000 with all of the mandrels. On the 6MM set, there are three mandrels; one with the "E24" stamped expander mandrel and a plane one (no stamp) which is the turning mandrel but there is another one with a "T24" stamped. The plane mandrel reads .241", the E24 mandrel reads .242" and the T24 mandrel reads .240.5". I'm wondering what the "T" mandrel is for? I called Brownell's and they don't know....

The “E” is to expand before you use the “T” as the trimming shaft. Otherwise brass springback wouldn’t allow for enough clearance to spin the case. Are the unmarked ones carbide to reduce lubrication needed?

Yes, they are all carbide. The 6MM mandrels are the only ones with the "T" marked mandrel. All of the others have two: "E" and "plain". I'm wondering if the other mandrel is for Lapua thicker neck brass???

E are the expanding mandrels to make the proper clearance you desire for your specific caliber. The T mandrel that you use while turning the necks with your neck turner.

But, I have three mandrels for the .240. One plane, as all the other turning mandrels are marked, all the mandrels have "E" for the expanding mandrels. Only have one marked "T" for the .240.

There are expander mandrels from other makers that fit the NT-4000. I have several that are not marked that did not come from Sinclair but will fit Hart, Kinneman's KCP Neck Turning Tool and others as well. I have only seen mandrels marked with a T or E that actually belong to the Sinclair models.
