sinclair bypod

hi
i have been shooting off of a haris bypod for years, and i just bought a sinclair bypod.it is very stable but i am having abit of trouble getting use to it.first thing i find i am getting vertical shots with it at times and is costing me points not good.2nd iam use to loading the harris when i shoot and am not sure what to do with the sinclair,if i should free recoil or try and hold it some how.what are your thoughts on this need some advice please. ???

ps i thought about changing the feet on the sinclair and putting some sort of pegs or something?? Darin

Darin,

I have the Sinclair as well and have found that a free recoil hold moves too much and wastes time having to reset everything. I pull it in a little and rock forward using my toes to push my body to give resistance and have found I can control it better on recoil.

I agree with you that sometype of claw foot could be more beneficial than the rounded base currently used but the current base allows for a slight rocking backward upon recoil.

Also you might want to use those locking star washers or a true lock washers under the leg bolts as I had problems with one side or the other collapsing during recoil at times.

thanks allen
i will try that way of shooting to see how it goes,i now what you are talking about having the legs fall down it has happend to me a few times already,

i just might make some pegged feet to see how they do?maybe something like the ones found on the haris falcon feet that way you could load the rest with your shoulder. Darin

Re: sinclair bipod

I have the Sinclair on my competition F-T/R rifle and find it a vast improvement over the Harris. I don't load the Sinclair (that I have noticed). With the Harris on my backup 308 rifle, still getting bipod hop, but have learned to live with it. Predict that the Sinclair will become standard equipment in the winner's circle.

how do you shoot your sinclair,do you shoot free recoil?or do you pull it into you with your pawm of your trigger hand?

I use a mwerks bipod that is somewhat similar to the Sinclair. And like Texas Ftr I do not load the bipod but use a light cheek weld on the stock and bag squeeze with my left hand. During the prep time I take the time to level my bipod and get a good natural point of aim. I also try to find the most level spot on my firing point. If I have those two and a pretty level spot the recoil is almost always just straight back. I do have a small piece of heavy canvas that I put down on the ground and let the bipod slide on that.

I have never had a leg collapse on the mwerks bipod in three years. I have also tried the Harris, too much hop, a Versa Pod, less hop and finally the mwerks bipod.

At the 2008 Nationals in Lodi, I saw a guy that had a strip of wood riveted to the front of his shooting mat and I presume he would push his bipod up against the wood and his body would hold the shooting mat down. Don't know what the rules say about such a device, but he was not called on it as far as I know. Have to give him credit for using the old "noodle" on that one.

I believe it is: mwerksllc.com
Jeff is working on a second model of the bipod which is a bit lighter than the first model that I use.
