Sinclair Bump Gauge/Hornady Comparator?

Not really. The Hornady gauge fits very loosely on the calipers. There is a gap of .05 or more and if you're not careful it is on well it could tilt and give you bad readings. Additionally the Hornady inserts are made of soft aluminum, much more likely to wear than the steel inserts of the Sinclair ones. I sort thousands of bullets in addition to measuring rounds and durability matters to me.

Thanks, Joe, I'm using the Sinclair insert so I'm good there and I'll wrench that tool down tight on the calipers.

I use the Hornady inserts in the Sinclair Comparator body and they fit just fine. The two brands of inserts are not the same; I have both. The Sinclair inserts are steel, Hornady's inserts are aluminum. The Hornady aluminum inserts also have a slightly smaller hole, at least the .22 and .30 cal inserts do. As a result, they seat a little further above the end of the bearing surface on the bullet ogive than do the Sinclair inserts.

The products can be used together but are not cut the same . The bullet comparators are cut at different diameters .

Top line is where the Hornady contacts the bullet . The bottom line is where the Sinclair contacts the bullet . The Sinclair contacts much closer to the actual diameter of the baring surface resulting in a more accurate measurement if you're looking for your touch COAL .

The Sinclair shoulder datum insert is cut at a taper , more like what the shoulder of your chamber would be compared to the 90* cut the Hornady has . They do not give the same measurements at all , not even close .

So yes you can use each products pieces together . However they DO NOT give the same measurements as each other .

Thanks, MG. I use a different method to check COAL so no worries there. I'm using the Sinclair to check shoulder bump when I full length size my cases.
