They work well for sighting/load testing rifles with hunting type stocks. One problem with the Gen 3 adjustable is they have some "slop" when the adjustment knob is anywhere except all the way down in it's lowest position. With a hunting stock I leave mine at lowest adjustment position, set the legs so crosshairs on scope are above the bullseye and move the rifle forward on the rear bag until crosshairs align with the bullseye. Having an anti cant device on your scope also helps to get set up correctly.

I have a gen 1 and a gen 3. The gen 3 is the one to buy.

I've only ever seen one gen 1, maybe 10 years ago. It was big with a long screw across the legs, IIRC. They were also unobtainable at that time. Could you post a picture of it? I bought a gen2, that looked like the lunar.module, in 2009, I think. The silver one. I got the gen 3 in 2012.

I will try to get a picture of both the Gen I & III.

The Gen 3 can be seen at the Sinclair website. But it would be nice if we could see the gen1 and gen 3 side by side on the pictures, that would show us the evolution of that bipod. I sold my gen 2 last year, but I have pictures of it being used on a rifle. I'll try to find one and post it here.

I recently bought this from a nice fella here in the classified section. I believe its the lastest generation. Hope to put it to good use this weekend in my first F-TR competition

It did pretty good during practice this weekend at 200 yards

Agreed. The fine elevation knob needs to be cranked all the way up or all the way down, basically defeating its purpose. I also do as you said and use the rear bag for fine adjustment. I've not had any issues with it hopping, but getting my body in the right position so that it tracks straight back has been a problem. Those ski feet are going to take the path of least resistance, which for me is usually to the right.

I'm new at this so there's a lot of experimentation and I'm learning as I go.

I find if I get the Sinclair Gen 3 as low on it's legs as possable it hops less and tracks better. There is less fore and aft wobble if you keep the fine adjustment setting as low as possable also. This makes setting up on some ranges a real hassle and can be very time consuming. Replacing the big feet with narrower ones that pivot also is said to improve tracking. As always position behind the rifle also must be right.

so do you like?..have you tried the generation 3
I finally sold that bipod last year to a friend who is interested in getting into the longer range game. It's a fine bipod, but it is heavy and not easily adjustable. However, once it was all locked up, it was sturdy and dependable.

I replaced it with a Gen 3 with the elevation adjustment years back. I noticed that the Gen 3 seemed to torque more than the Gen 2, but it was lighter and has more adjustments, though I used to either bottom or top it out, not leave it in the middle.

I still have the Gen 3, as backup but I have been using a Joy Pod for almost 3 years now. Seb makes excellent products.

Like the Turtle said set the adjustment either up or down and lock it in. I have the Gen 3 and use it a lot. My FTR rifle sports a Duplin but for my hunting/plinking rifles the Sinclair gets the call.

DSC_0990.jpg Here's a picture of my F-TR match rifle with the Sinclair Gen 3 after shooting. I always put back the elevation adjustment in the middle after firing is complete so that at the next match, I could go up or down quickly, without changing the leg height right at the start. The scope on the rifle is the NF NXS 12-42X56mm. Because of the piggish weight of these components, I had to hold the barrel length to 30 inches in a medium Palma contour.

Going to the awesome March-X 5-50X56 and the superlative Joy Pod, I am able to use a 34inch barrel in heavy Palma contour and still be almost 8 ounces under weight. Plenty to satisfy the most inaccurate scales at matches, and have my rain shield on the rifle at weight time. No hacksaws for this old guy, or power drill cores from the stock.

I notice that your scope seem to be farther forward than mine is..i know it must be
a good set up for yourself....have you tried it back farther?
this was another question I was going to post..whether farther forward or back farther..
