Silver Finish Anadizing??

Hi Larry, How you been? Thanks for the info.
Is there any need for any kind of finish to be applied to aluminum? I have a set of Aluminum Talley Picatinny rings that's been bead blasted to coordinate with the Robar NP3 finish on a Surgeon 591 (I needed a finish on the action because it was unfinished in the white) , and a Bead Blasted finish on a stainless barrel and a Silver Leupold.
I had a smith say the bare aluminum would be to soft on the rings, but I am a little skeptical on that info. I have polished aluminum rings on target rifles so I dont understand what the difference would be.

I dont see why you would need any finish except for apperance. If you are going to finish any metal item and you like the look of satin SS, metalife is the best you can buy. It has a liftime warranty, its actually harder than SS and very durable and wear resistant. I have owned several items including whole rifles and shotguns done in this product, and I recommend it highly. Its color will look great w/your silver scope. Larry

Standard "clear" anodizing really doesn't add much to the hardness of the aluminum. It's more for appearance and anti-oxidation . Hard coat anodizing does add hardness (about 65 rockwell) but it certainly won't be silver, color varies according to the aluminum type and hardness. Anodizing shops normally charge by the batch and you really couldn't afford to anodize 1 set of rings.
