Sightron Warranty Warning!

G'day from the land of oz!

Cautionary tale here gents, So a couple of years ago I purchased a sightron s2 4-16x42 scope. It was mounted on a 17HMR rifle carefully. The scope was always a tad sticky on the mag ring but nothing that made me too suspect.

Well over the next couple of years the binding increased gradually to the point where it wouldn't allow me to go to the minimum mag at all. I was convinced by a mate to send it back because this shouldn't be happening. Also the rifle was never dropped or dinged in any way that made me suspicious of damage.

So off it goes back to sightron through my supplier, Just for me to receive that the scope is bent 1/4 inch out of spec and it cannot be repaired and as the scope is no longer made cannot be replaced.

The offer I received was for a STAC scope at a slightly discounted rate (wholesale price most likely) but this scope is 30mm and my rifle has 1 inch rings.

Further emails have basically seen them dust their hands of me.

My suggestion for folks thinking of a sightron is I suggest you find another company with a more flexible and understand warranty.

Seeya!

I personally do not own any products made by Sightron but in looking at the warranty they do offer a lifetime warranty against workmanship or materials. If the optic was bent and they still offered any kind of discount it sounds like they went out of their way to try and satisfy a customer even if the current model did not fit your old rings. Pretty sad to go on a public forum, with only two previous messages posted, to slam both the company and their clearly stated warranty. If you want an optic with an unquestioned repair or replace warranty then you might want to look at Vortex Optics.......g'day

I have own and use Sightron scopes bought new or used never had a problem with their CS as far as warranty work.
What your supplier should have told you was the following-
Note: Products shipped from the USA out of the country are considered Gray Market Products and are not covered by this warranty.
so for them to offer any kind of resolution to your problem, when they didn't have to speaks volumes of their CS

Ya that warranty is pretty clear. Obviously during shipping or previous owner the damage occurred unless current owner damaged it unknowingly. Either way, it's damage which clearly is covered in the warranty. I'll be going back to Sightron regardless. I don't need an unconditional warranty. If I wreck a scope, sucks to be me. If it's an issue from the factory, they'll cover it, period.

It was indeed my fault, after reading the warranty I can see its not covered outside USA.

The reason I thought this wouldnt be a problem is I have had mates who had similar issues and were issued a replacement no questions asked. I just thought most reputable brands offered the same.

Sorry, I am with the aussi here, unless there was visible damage causing the bend, maybe some responsibility should be owned by the company.
Sounds to me like the op got the scope, it had issues, but chose to live with it, which was his only mistake.

Its only grey market if it wasnt brought into whatever country by an authorized dealer. They can track that by the serial number.

People cry too much... its a disposable item in the end... just like a car... but no one ever uses up a car then goes back to the dear saying its old and dont work no more...

Go buy a new scope.

I've always figured that if you can't sweet talk, cajole or browbeat a supplier into accepting a warranty claim, then you have to be on the ragged edge of credibility - assuming that you bought a credible product to start with. There's no benefit in a supplier rejecting a claim, particularly with the power of the acid tongue on social media.

Having said that, I once had an issue with an acceptable quality scope that had sat on a gun shop shelf for a good while. Some likely lad had once screwed the windage & elevation adjustments to the stops & left it there. I didn't notice the issue until it refused to answer to helm when I was aligning it on the collometer. When I explained the full story, the supplier's agent swapped it for me without quibble.

I have never had any issues with sightron scopes....or any warranty issues I have sent a scope back and it was fixed for free and shipped back free....Thank You Ion your the man...I like sightron scopes not the best>>>>> but pretty dam good as I see it<<<<<<<

I have 4 Sightron Slll 10-50x60 scopes and have used their customer service a couple of times and have had great results. I even called them about a rifle that fell off my truck bed and landed on the scope on a gravel surface and bent the scope. Totally my fault yet they offered to replace it at a very reasonable price which I was very happy to do.

I don't like how Sightron has NO warranty outside the USofA. That's pretty sleazy.

I have 4 bushnells products and all 4 are covered by a NO QUESTIONS ASKED warranty INCLUDING ACCIDENTAL DAMAGE !

There is the US government policy on glassware among other products. Back when I was dewy eyed, I could pack a Leupold carefully & send it off for repair & have it returned to me. Now, all such have to go through the importer out & back (or somebody with the appropriate import/export or whatever US approval). I could imagine that causing financial & logistic issues from outside the States.

For example, I know that when one of my Leupolds goes spastic, I have to return it to the Aussie importer who will send it with others, when enough are accumulated, back to Leupold & they return them when they have a job lot.

I guess that could explain mccraggen's situation, that the local importer isn't prepared or sizeable enough to manage that.

They have warranty outside the us as long as it was purchased through an authorized importer/exporter. In canada we have a few authorized dealers like Hirsch precision . All warranty work has yto be sent through these dealers.
