Sightron SV

Does any one have or has had the sightron SV? What did you or how do you feel about it? Thanks

I don't own one, but a mate off mine does and I've had a bit of a play with it. Overall it's not a bad scope but probably a bit too much money for what it is. Glass is decent but not HD. I find the glass on my Vortex GE better. Eye relief is excellent and it's an easy scope to get behind. It's a massive scope though so if weight is a concern, be careful. The parallax adjustment is amazing though, easily the best I've used on any F-class scope out there. The turrets whilst locking, are too soft and mushy for my liking, they could definitely be improved. Tracking hasn't been a problem for my mate though.

I have one on an F class rifle and overall its pretty good, but as stated above the glass is not HD. Its not bad and with the 60mm objective its pretty bright and it has a great eye box. I shoot 600 and 1000yards with it and am not unhappy but as stated above I think the Vortex GE has better glass but overall there are a lot of things I like about the SV better. The dual stage parallex adjustment is really sweet. I recently compared mine at 500 yards with a S&B 10-50x56 and a March (not high master) The S&B and SV were fairly close in clarity through the mirage but the S&B had slightly better color. But the real winner on those three was the March. Mirage was better but the March is a lot harder to get behind.

I just returned from the NRA meeting in Atlanta and there is a new HD version of the Sightron SV. I saw it in person and it is for sure an improvement in glass quality for what seems to be a reasonable price. I think he said it was only $200 more than the normal SV.

Their 2017 catalog says the SV has ED lenses so I would not think they would be calling them HD. They are definitely different.

Well that's a step in the right direction. I notice it also has 1/8 adjustments.

As stated above the correct term of the new glass according to their catalog is ED. I mistakenly typed HD earlier. Either way I personally looked through it and to me, it is an improvement to the original SV

You must of looked through a preproduction model or a standard SV.. I talked with Sightron and the SV will be offered later 2017 with ED glass.. Currently the only model shipping with ED glass is the STAC 2.5-17.5..

Yes I assume it was preproduction. I attended the NRA show this weekend in Atlanta and when I advised them I shot a SV currently he asked me what I thought. I told the truth that I really liked it but would have paid extra for a higher quality glass if it were available. He turned to the display rack and said here you go. Its coming out this year and it has a marking on the objective bell stating something like HD or ED glass etc and he said it was a few hundred extra for it but I can't remember the exact upcharge
