Sightron SIII 8x32x56

Anyone have any experience good, bad or indifferent with Sightron's SIII 8x32x56 or 10x50x60 scopes they would be willing to share. I have read a ton of reviews, most of which are positive. Just wondering what the general consensus is for bench and long range field use?

Thanks!

I have an 8-32 now and had a 10-50 a while back... They are excellent scopes that deliver a lot of "product" for the money spent. They are durable, they track well and their optics are very good. The 10-50, in my opinion, loses a lot of light at 50 power.

Just got a 10-50. Need to test it out more, but it is very nice, though, as ShootDots, said, it does seem to lose light at 50x....that said, at 40x, its great, and thats stil more power than 32x. This just very limited first experience, looking out my front window. Need to take it to the range to get a real idea.

Thanks for the comments. I am leaning toward the 8x32 as I think that would be plenty of scope for me at 1,000 if I chose to shoot any benchrest matches. But, I did want to get some feedback on the 10x50.

I would be putting it on a 6.5x284 that I hope my gunsmith will have finished by spring, so I have a little time to look around...problem is I need to find a dealer somewhere close to NW North Carolina that I could visit and take a look at the two.

Any comment as to the side focus being difficult to turn? The only complaints I saw in the reviews I read where related to the paralex adjustment and flimsy lense caps.

The adjustments are fine on mine... I had one of the first 10-50's when they came out... I would turn it down to 40power and it was fine... I would get the 10-50. It is not THAT much more and you would have the additional power should you need it.. You will not notice any difference in optics between the Sightron and any other comparable scope.. It is NOT a Schmidt and Bender or a March>>>but it is plenty good enough for 1000 yard competition..

Just dont get a mil-dot reticle as the dots look like baseballs. Other than that the ones with standard reticles are very clear and rugged.

I have a 8X32... well actually 3 of them now. Like mentioned already I think its about the best bang for the buck. Is it a no holds bared tactical scope that could pound a tent stake in with and still be used... NO. But a damn good Trget scope for which it was designed.
My only complaint so far is that the knobs turn way too easy and Ihave inadvertantly turned them while carry my rifle to and fro. I believe the new ones have been redone so that they are stiffer per say.

If its Bench rest ( which I am not) you might be wise to go the larger route....10X50. No point in NOT having more power for that game.

I have two Sightron SIII 10-50x60 scopes mounted on two long range rifles that I shoot mostly benchrest at 600yds. I have no problems with them even at 50 power where I shoot just about all the time. I do not think the light loss is that much at 50 power. The only time I turn the power down below 50 at 600 yds is when the mirage is bad. I would not hesitate to purchase another one if I should need another scope of that power. I figure that since the 10-50x60 does not cost that much more than the 8-32x56 you should consider the 10-50. You can turn the power down to about the same range as the 8-32 but the 50 power is always there if you need it.

I've had a couple of 8-32s for several years now, and have only positive things to say about them. Initially, I used the first one on a BAT 3LL prone rifle for 1000yd any/any matches, and was very pleased with it for that application. More recently, I put both of the 8-32s on my LR BR rifles, and was very pleased with the move up in power from the SIII 6-24x50s they replaced.

Optical quality is excellent, tracking is good enough so that I've never had any doubts or other concerns with it. Hard to imagine getting more bang for the buck than the SIII provides.

Best bang for the buck by far. Get the 10-50x60. Side focus is a little stiff. My 10-50x60 on 50x is a lot brighter than my old 45x Leupold Competition.

Midsouth Shooters has good prices on them if you can catch them in stock.

I have an 8-32 moa retical. In a typical varmint match I spin it at least 24 times. It repeats perfectly. Glass is clear!

They get a recommend from me!

When I purchased my first Sightron III 10-50x60 I also thought the side parallax focus knob was a little stiff so I called Sightron about that. They said that they intentionally build them that way so that there is no accidental movement of the side focus knob but that if I wanted to loosen it up to just send it back to them and they would loosen it up at no cost. They said the way they loosen it up is by changing the "O" ring that the knob rides on to a thinner "O" ring. I had it back in a week and a half and it was better. When I purchased my second Sightron III 10-50 I left the side focus the way it came as I realized that once you get use to it the side focus stiffness was not that big a deal.

I like my 8-32x56. I don't know if this is any help but these photos were shot through the scope with my phone camera. I like the 1/8th clicks and the fine centre dot.

This is at 1000yds on about 20x on a far from clear day.

and 100yds at 8x

i'v bought SIX 8-32x56 on the marketplace here...1 for a buddy and FIVE for myself! 4 of the 5 are 1/8 min dot and 1/8 min clicks. the price for a previously owned scope is 1/3 or less than my nightforce 8-32 np2.dd . the end caps are truely crap but even though the side focus is a bit stiff, i can't find anything wrong with their clarity etc. i focused my nightforce 8-32 np2dd and sightron on a target at 600 yds and went back and forth looking for a difference. being very critical, i felt the nightforce cut through the haze ever so slightly better. is that worth 3x the cost of the sightron?

I got the SIII 10-50 last September and have limited experience - two F class mid range matches. I like it a lot - very clear, solid clicks, tracks well, side focus is stiff but I think that is a good thing.

I have the mil-hash reticle and like that - the center dot isn't too big or distracting (for me).

I did add a hood to it and would suggest that as a must-have.

Go to http://forum.accurateshooter.com/index.php?topic=3788684.0 to purchase a set of replacement Sightron III 10-50x60 lens caps for $10.00 including shipping, they work great. I have used 3 sets so far. Hint, drill a small hole in the center of the replacement cap. They fit so snug that this helps release some of the air pressure when you put the cap on the scope.

As to your other concerns, there's no such thing as a perfect scope. Stop fretting over every negative comment. As you have already gleaned, the vast majority are positive. For the money, IMO, there is no better scope. If you buy one gently used, you'll almost certainly be able to sell it later for what it cost you -- if you get the itch to try something else. 8)

I have a 6-24x50 and the 10-50x60. Both MOA reticles. One illuminated the other withoutout. Both track perfectly. Both I would say are very good optics in this price range. I'm very happy with both of mine!

with a tiny bit of digging around, you can find fantastic prices on these models often can pick up brand new scope for same or few bucks more than folks advertise here for used.
