If you own one of these,Bill Ackerman at oscscope@aol.com now has the tooling to preform reticle conversions. Any questions contact Bill at the posted email address. Thanks Larry

I cant answer that one. I havent had the opportunity to see the new 6500 Bushnell. I know the 4200 for clarity is a hard act to follow and I would think the 6500 is equal to or maybe even better. I hope they improved the adjustment range on the 6500 over the 4200.

Its not suppose to. The factory refered me to Bill Ackerman, so hopefully everyone is on the same sheet of music. The engineers from Japan were at the plant this past week. I tried to contact Allen today to see if there are any updates on this model, but he was out for the day. Larry

Ironworker,
I have an Elite 6500 2.5-16x42 and a Sightron SIII 8-32x56 LR-D. While I've been very pleased with the 6500, I think the 6500 4.5-30x50 is going to have a slightly tough time measuring up to the SIII's optics. The SIII's 56mm obj., compared to my 6500's 42mm obj. doesn't make for an apples-to-apples comparison, but until I've had more time to shoot with both scopes, that's about all I can say. The only thing I'll add at this point is that I'm glad we've got both the 6500s & SIIIs to choose from.

I have 2 4200 Elite scopes,1st one is a B&L 6x24x40MM I bought just before they changes names. Its been doing very well for 8 years.2nd one is a 4x16x40MM Bushnell. Its very good I can see holes on 100 yard line very well. Then I have the Bushnell 6500 2.5x16x50MM. I can't see the holes on 100 yard line as clearly as with the 4x16x40MM. So that gives me 2nd thoughts about purchasing a 4.5x30x50MM. I'm eagerly awaiting your review on the Sightron 3 8x32x56MM ? I have a Rem 700 Sendero won't that scope mount super high? I mean have to move my head out of position? I wonder how the new Vortex's will compare? I like their reticle choices. So far I'm leaning in the direction of a Zeiss Conquest 6.5x20x50MM

The SIII 8-32x56 is mounted on a LR prone rifle I just finished. Action is a BAT 3LL, with barrels in 6.5x55 AI & 284 Win. The 6.5 is a Bartlein 8.5-twist, while the 284 is a Krieger 9-twist; both are #14 hvy. Palma contour, finished at 30". Rifle is stocked with a Robertson Composites H&H in Vermont Granite color pattern, and the trigger is a Jewell HVR. Weight with the SIII mounted is 15.25lbs.

I shot a 3x1000 out at Byers, Co. with the 284 bbl. on the rifle about a month ago, and had decent results in the 1st match, but the 2nd & 3rd were pretty poor, with quite a few off-call elevation & windage shots. I was pretty disgusted with myself & the rifle until I got home and took the scope rings loose to move it forward another 1/2" or so - then I discovered that all four 8x40 screws on my 20 MOA sloped scope base were loose. In my hurry to get the rifle finished and ready to go out to Colorado, I'd forgotten to loc-tite the base screws, and it didn't take long for the recoil of a 284 with 180s to shake things loose.

I've been shooting the 6.5bbl. this past week to get some cases fireformed, and have had excellent results with the accuracy & tracking of the SIII. Every time I get a chance to use this scope, I'm pleased with the optical quality. I'm in the market for another LR scope for a 6x47L, and am seriously considering a SIII 6-24x50. I'd go for another 8-32, but this 6x47 is in a McMillan A5 stock, and I don't want a scope with the 8-32's big 56mm objective. Would appreciate any feedback from those of you who've tried the SIII 6-24x50.

What is it that big 56MM lens does? Is itb just simply take in more light? I thought our eyes can only take is so much?

Jeff if you can hold on for a few more days until they are available, I can save you 75.00 plus shipping cost. To secure a scope email me your shipping address, and mail funds or contact me w/CC info.

I read here about every day but I have never posted. I have been following these 8-32 sightrons for a while now. What can you tell me about the actual glass? Is it as good as leupold? As good as Night Force? Where does it rate. I have Us optics too but no need to ask that question. I have a build coming up that should have been done 3 months ago. You all know how that goes. I really don't need to spend Us optics money right now but I need good glass. Or at least I think I do. For the money I would give one of these a try them put it on something else when I buy my 3.8-22 sn3?
Thank all of you for help and opinions,

Todd, looks like you missed the review Jason Baney did on this scope. Search for it, and you'll get the info you've asked about.

I just received the new SIII 6-24x50 MD, and I'll be comparing it to a Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x50, Pentax LS30 6-24x50, and Leupold VX3 LR/T M1 6.5-20x50, all of which I've had in the cabinet at home for a while now. A fearsome foursome? We shall see. :)

BTW, I chose the 6-24 SIII because it has a claimed 100 MOA of internal elevation adjustment, which is more important to me than the extra magnification of the 8-32,which has about 70 MOA of elevation if I recall...).

I hate to spend 1/2 of good one on this one and get a bad one. But I am very excited about the possibliities on this one.
Thanks,
T

I bought my first Sightron scope in '99. Their SII4-16x42MD version. 1" maintube, A/O, about 56 MOA of total elevation adjustment. Excellent reliability and repeatability. Good optics. Used it with quite a bit of success in matches. I consider it my most trustworthy scope. I paid about $250 for it back then, and I'm not sure I'd sell it for five hundred now,not that anybody would pay such a price, but it's easily worth that to me...).

Sightron makes a good product, and hopefully the new SIII is the best one yet. I'm betting it provides 90+% of the performance of the Nightforce NXS, at half the cost. That's a huge value quotient. I'm lucky enough to be able to afford to buy any scope, but I like bargains. A Nissan Xterra vs. a Porsche Cayenne? Give me the Xterra, and I'll put the extra money in the bank.

That's what makes it a horserace.

put it this way i sold my leupolds to get my 2 sightrons in 8-32x. the glass in the leupolds dont even compare to the sightrons. best scope for the money on the planet. they are right up there with the best scopes in the world for a third of the price.

Can I get a mil-dot or something other that the 1/4 dot? Is the mil dot fine enough to work with if there is one? How many moa on the turn?
T

Only a 1/4 dot is offered for now. Bill Ackerman is the goto man for reticle changes for these scopes. His contact info is listed in an earlier post.
Also read Jasons article on testing this model for tracking. Again a very impressive review on this product. You will find it in the daily bulletin under optics. Larry

I just got my S3 6-24 mill-dot in yesterday, And I can tell you for sure they are everything and more than I expected. I was looking at a Nightforce 5.5-22 just this weekend, And I tell you what, Im glad I saved about half the money on the Sightron.

Dont get me wrong, The Nightforce is a nice scope, and I would like to have one. But for $1500+ bucks it didnt WOW me nearly as much as the S3..

I too was very impressed with the SIII 6X24 scope. Optics are superb, right up there with my pentax ED spotting scope at LR.

The resolving power of the scope is amazing at LR and it really makes primary colours pop. My go to scope has been an Elite 6x24 AO scope.

The sightron has better resolution, contrast. Equal clarity. It also sees through mirage much better.

One thing that it can't do is maintain that optical prowess through the entire range of the scope. When you get to either extremes,elev/windage), the optics loose their sharpness in a hurry. Still pretty decent, like VXIII) but no where near as sharp as the optical center.

I found that the middle 70mins was the best viewing. If you look at the hash marks, the factory also expects you to use the glass centered as much as possible.

I really like the feel of the controls too. Great scope for the money.
