Sightron sIII 10-50x60

I own both a fine cross hair and one with the 1/8" target dot. Both are clear as a bell as long as you don't turn them above 40x. And they track perfectly.

Anybody got one? any complaints? Hows the clarity on 60x?

RJ is right, a little fuzzy on max power, focus is touchy above 40X. The older models (like my two) have soft adjustment detents. I have heard that this is fixed on current production. I shoot mine in F-TR at 1000. They are not as good as my Nightforce BR and NXS but I still shoot good scores with the Sightrons. Mine are both FCH reticles.

I looked through one last month at a 100 - 500 practical match. Freakin amazing!! I was a die-hard Leupold guy...untill I caught the Nightforce bug. I had my NSX 8 - 32 x56, and with the Sightron set at about 32x it SMOKED my NF!! It did get a little fuzzy/blury/dark at 50 x. I would have liked to compair it ro my 12-42 NF NSX at 42x...just to see...maybe the NF "catches up" at the higher XXX.

I own 3 Sightron 10 x 50 X 60 and 2 Sightron 8 x 32 X 60

I also own 2 Nightforce 5.5 X 22 X 56 and 2 Night force 8 X 32 and 2 Nightforce 12 X 42.

I would not treat the Sightrons a roughly as I would the Nightforce scopes. But the Sightrons in a target shooting enviroment have held their own very well. The clarity on the Sightrons may actually exceed the Nightforce. Tracking has not been an issue with either scope.
You can buy 2 Sightrons for the cost of 1 Nightforce. The Sightron Waranty is second to none if you need it.

I have to agree with just about everything that has been said already. I have one of the first shipments, and the detent for the turrets are a little soft. I've heard that sightron has added more spring pressure to the knobs since their first batch. This sightron was has been my first, and WILL NOT be my last I'm very happy with it.

Do you have one of the new 2011 models?

So what's the point of marketing a big 10-50x60 scope when the top end magnification is pretty much useless?

The marketing point is that they can use the extra power as a selling point and make money. ;)

I can see little advantage for a scope over 40X at 1000. So, having the 50X capability is not important to me. The Nightforce BR at 42X is also more than enough. It would be interesting to hear if some folks use them at 50X and what their experience is at that power.

At under 42 power they are as nice as a Nightforce when viewed side-by-side but the Sightron gets considerably darker after that and it is probably done for marketing.
At 42 power they can both resolve rust particles on a nail head at great distances with the Sightron having a little more contrast.

Based upon what people are saying the SIII 10-50x60 is a good scope, but not capable of providing performance levels within its own specs? If you spent $2000 on a USO,SB or Ziess and it was sub par to it's specs, you would be ok with that? Doubtful. Just because it is a sub $1000 optic does not give it a free lunch.

Call it and make it like it is.........10-40x60. I'd bet if Sightron did that, the scope would have better resolution at 40x than the Nightforce BR at 42x if what people are saying about the comparison is true.
