Sightron SIII 10-50x60 Scope.

Hello all, I would like to purchase a scope for my accurized .308 Rem that will be used for F-T/R shooting. I am looking at a NFBR 12x42 but am worried about weight later down the road when I put on a longer tube. The Sightron is almost a pound lighter. Is it as good as they say they are out to 1000 yards? What are some of the pros and cons of the Sightron, I know NF is good, so I dont need much info on the NF, I am looking for others experience with the Sightron and if it is worth it. I am seriously considering it so any information will be great. Thank you all for your time.

That scope is a dandy, with my only complaint being the turret clicks are really soft and I loose track of the clicks some times...
Not a major deal, but I wish they were as solid as my NF's..

Dave,

I have both scopes and love both scopes. If you have the extra jing to spend, get the NBR, if you dont you will be verry happy with the SIII.

Kinda like wanting John Deere and settling for a case IH. Or wanting a Lund Pro V and setting for an Angler or Mr. Pike. All good but the pride factor is the major factor... I have another build in the works and realistically I will prob put another SIII on top as it is a great scope for the money... And buy two barrels with the money saved...

Hey Rod,

Yes, I see what everyone is saying. They are both the same...but different. ha. You brought up a good point about taking the extra money and getting a barrel. I was able to look through a NBR at Scheels in Fargo, it was really nice and the adj and the clicks seemed really well too. Not a fan of having illumination reticle but hey, I guess it is there if you ever want it. It is a nice scope.

I have the Sightron and love it very repeatable excellent glass from edge to edge at any power parallax adjustment is a bit touchy but i don't have a problem with that, clicks are nice and positive mine came with nice flip up lens covers.

I have a Sightron 10-50 and have fired 4000 rounds looking through it. The optics in my opinion are as good as the NF as I have had them side by side on several occasions. My clicks are not soft at all, in fact very tactile. The most impressive feature is how repeatable it tracks. I vary yardages a lot and it is always accurate. The con is Sightrons are very sensitive in their parralax adjustment. With that being said once you get use to it I don't see as to big of a deal. My recommendation is that you give Sightron a try and I think you will be happy.

Dont mean to hijack this thread, But...I have a SIII 10-50x60 with the side focus. it came to me used. I think the optics are great. How do you best adjust the parallax?
second question, Mine seems to have "soft" clicks too. Does anyone do a conversion where the stronger spring is put in them? (like the tucker conversion on a leupold)?

I am pretty sure that the first initial run of them had the soft turret clicks but then that issue was addressed and the all the later ones have a snappy firmer click.

I agree with everything said about both scopes, my new 10X50 turrets work great and are crisp. Consider the MOA-2 reticule. I love It

bought my 10x50x60 irlr-moa2 scope and year ago with the same problem you are thinking about and have been happy with mine clicks are crisp tracks great and most of the time i can keep it on 50 power and shoot thru the mirage. i'm workning on a f open rifle now and will be swapping scope this winter to another 10x50 sightron.

It's a fact that the new Sightron's do not have a mushy click feeling, the new ones feel as good as my NF's.
These days it's a tossup as to buying one or the other...
Like the Fargo man said, buy a Sightron and use the extra money for a barrel..
I have a 10x50x60 S111 and a 12x42x56 NXS setting in the safe waiting to go on my new 338Ultra Mag build, and I doubt ones any better than the other one...
I do love my NP2DD reticules, and that may just make up my mind over the single dot..
But the 1/8th inch clicks on the Sightron are a plus...
Trying to decide will give a old guy a headache...........
