sightron lll 8-32x56mm Need help

OK guys please be nice,I just found out that my Burris Signature ( old style ) doesn't have enough elevation for my setup. So here I am needing a scope, and I have looked at many a make and model.I like the Sightron for many reasons ( price being first ) and that there are many nice to great reports about them.I need answers for the setup I am wanting to run.

First I need to know if the scope will have enough elevation for my load, ( 308win, 200gn hybrid at 2500fps that needs 36 moa from a 100 yard zero

second is to what hight of ring will work with my EGW 20moa rail for a SA Rem700,I guess Permanent Leupold rings ( the $45 ones

last would be to what retical would you guys think would best suit me.the 1/8 or 1/4 dot,I am getting into FT/R.I choose the dot for I shoot with a dot on my 223,and have only used a duplex type for some time now.Plus I may hunt wit this rifle from time to time

I am really sorry for having to ask these simple question for the most of you,but I am in a creek with a boat here with no bottom in it at all,and I am trying to get everything in order for my first match in May.

thanks,John

If I am understanding things right, with my setup,my scope now only has 26 moa.I am wanting to keep a 100 yard zero and even this want help me to do that .If I'm not understanding this right someone please help me understand.

This is how I think I understand this. With my scope now,I can turn from a dead bottom ( elevation ) using the numbers on the dial,I can count the numbers ( up at 0 ) to get 26 ups/moa ) with the Burris rings I can add the 10 or more MOA but I want or might not have a 100 zero.I think it would even make it to low, heck my mind has been in overdrive since I found this out.Need to stop thinking about it before my mind fries.again HELP ME

OK still at this, just looked at Sightrons Web site.So fare I have come up with in a 8-32 powder scope, they have 70 full moa, that offers 35moa from center,so this is 1moa short.Their 6-24 power scopes have 100 full moa that offers from center 50moa. So with my setup I might be better off with a 6-24 power scope.

Just to see if I am still on key here. With a scope having 70moa total and 35moa center, now with a 20moa base this should put me off center at 50moa ( right ) again please help I think I am over thinking this.

thanks,John

John,

With the Sightron 8-32 I needed to go to Burris Signature extra high rings using a Remington diameter action, heavy target barrel and .335 high front base in order to clear the barrel. If you also order the Burris Signature offset ring inserts you would be able to increase the amount of scope elevation adjustment available to you and set the scope up so you can easily cover 100 - 1000 yards. The inserts simply allow you to tilt the scope downwards within the rings, effectively giving you more 'vertical' adjustment. The rings are available to suit Weaver or Picatinny rails.

I think once you have shot F/TR a few times you will want more scope power than 24x. I used fixed power scopes of this magnification for years but when we moved to 1/2 minute centres, I found I was straining my eyes excessively, so sold them off and now use between 32x and 42x power scopes. I use the 1/8 moa dots, anything larger would be too large, at least for me, but I think you would find it too small for hunting unless your critters are really small or in the next county!

Richard.

Hey man thanks for the help, things just got to me something bad, ended up going to bed at around 2 in the mornning.I feel ya on the 32 power scopes,my eyes aren't the best, just trying to find a fix for my problem.I can say that my barrel is just a varment barrel,so I'm still not sure to what setup for rings I'll need.Heck in order to just be able to get this one scope I need to sale two or three of my scopes first. This will put one of my rifles out for some time, hate not having scopes on all my rifles, but I gotta do something to get to the match.

Well I just hope things start to lookup for me,I want let this one thing keeep me from doing what I love.I will be at the match rain,or snow want stop me.

Johnboy,

I just went thru that on my Savage 223AI and a NF 8x32 BR. I was 12 moa up to get a zero at 100 yds with 34 moa to go up. I had 20 moa in the rings, but "0" on the base. I needed the 12 moa, I was lossing. I swapped scopes and it has a 8 x 32 Sightron now. You can get tilt from a 20 moa base and another 20moa from the Burris rings, for 30mm, 40moa for the 1" rings.

Johnboy,

I had the same scope with roughly the same load last year and had no issues getting to 1000y with a 20MOA NF base and TPS medium rings. This was on a Rem700 with a 7.9b Broughton spun on it; clearance was fine too. The scope was good but I ended up moving up to the 10-50, but both had the LRTD reticle.

thanks guys for the help.As of now I have come to the point of getting either the Sightron 8-32x50 with a 1/8 dot,or a Vortex viper PST 6-24x50 with a EBR ret.I too have made a choice to get a 30moa base to add in the elevation.

Again thanks for all your help, its been really helpful to me.By any chance anyone want to buy my old Burris Signature scope?

He guys I just wanted to thank ya'll for the time and kind post, that went to helping me.There should be a Vortex coming my way soon.I am thankful to be a part of such a group, that one can ask simple questions and get great answers.
