Sightron iii ?

Link

Silver $$ Contributor
I have a couple T-36s and looking for something better. My friend has a big NF. and is trying to sway me that way. It's a lot of money.

Would I be happy with a Sightron iii for less money?

Wondering how to mount a Sightron iii on a Kelby- Panda do they make a burris signature setup that would work ?

thanks

Link: No, I checked it out for my Panda. You would most likely have to have an adapter base made to convert from the Panda dovetail to a Weaver type, Zee ring base. If able to do that it seems it would put the scope a lot higher.

I did and was told they would have to "modify" the Panda receiver. I said "no thanks".

If someone knows of a non custom made base to make the conversion, maybe they will share their information. That's the only issue preventing me from mounting one of my Leupold Competition Series 40x's on the Panda.

Link,
Not to disagree with fdshuster,s experience , but I have two Sightron 10-50x60,s mounted on two Pandas, one using the Burris SignatureZee 30mm, extra high on a 20 minute Picatinney rail (with 10 minutes reduced by inserts) , and the other Panda has a standard dovetail rail with a Kelbly standard height mount. I have just enough clearance to use the factory lens covers.

i have fixed and adjustable power sightrons and they re fantastic "for the money" scopes that leave little to complain about. They do, however, leave me really tired after looking through them all day, they simply do not have the resolving clarity of some leupolds or any nightforce that I have looked through. Granted, I say this as a guy who looked through lenses for a living for a long time, but you get what you pay for with a night force. Sighttrons are absolutely good enough. You need to decide how critical/sensitive you are about lens quality as my "good enough" is another guys "best Ive ever seen" so its important to keep that perspective when looking at this stuff. Id be sure to look through an s3 before you get one, the quality of the glass might not be that much of an improvement over your weaver, if the lens itself is all you are concerned with. And just for clarity, sightrons are great scopes, I have two. If I could afford a nightforce though, Id sell them in a second. That extra contrast that you'll find in higher priced glass yields less fatigue for me if you are behind it practicing for hours.

I have 2 Siii 10-50 and 2 weaver T36
I mainly shoot point blank and out to 400 yards. The sightron is a great scope and as clear As the weavers. But for me anyway I'm having a hard time seeing the supposed extra 14x. Maybe it shows itself at longer range?
I'm going with another T36 for my next build.

Bill: You have me scratching my head and saying "Huh?" You must have a Panda that came without a dovetail base as a permanent part of the receiver. Mine did, and rings to fit a Weaver, or my NF 20 moa base's are much too wide (the dovetail) to fit the Panda dovetail. Or, maybe your Panda dovetail base was machined off & replaced with the NF 20 moa? We are talking apples and oranges here.

NF & all similar Weaver type bases have a flat top surface that measues approx. .832" wide, and my Panda dovetail base has the same surface that is approx. .475" wide.

As for mounting a 30mm tubed scope on the Panda, yes I would do that by just buying a set of Panda rings, but I will not risk damaging the $950 scope with ring marks. That's why the Panda wears a $300 Weaver T-36x.

Link, I have a Panda "F-Class" action and it has a "Dovetail" receiver. Stolle makes a "Picatinney Style" rear mount in "flat, 20m.o.a. and I believe 30m.o.a... I have the 20m.o.a. rail. It slides right over the dovetail and has set screws to tighten it down with.. You can then use medium height rings and have PLENTY of space between the objective lens and the barrel.. As far as the "scope" is concerned, I have 4 NightForce scopes and they are GREAT! However, having said that, I also owned 3 Sightron SIII scopes>>>(2 )>in 8-32 and (1)>in 10-50. They are ALL excellent scopes and there MAY be some resolution differences between a Sightron and a NightForce, if your eyes are keen enough to discern the difference.. Go buy your Sightron and don't look back!

I have a Sightron 10-50 and a NF NSX 10-32. The Sightron at 50X is clearer and brighter than the NF at 32X. Before I had these I had a NF 12-42 BR. It was terrible. Clarity and brightness went down exponentially after you passed 24X. As far as I'm concerned the SIII series is hard to beat!

I have 2 of the Sightron Slll 10-50 on a 6BR and .308 and only use them at 600yds. Once I find the target at 10X the scope goes to 50X and stays there unless the mirage gets too bad and I have to power down. My old eyes would be lost without that 50X. I have fired several rifles at 600yds with 36x and for me they just can't match the 50X.

I have read all the replies about 3 times, Thanks for the info.

Looks like it's a call to Kelby's Monday then look for the best deal on the S iii

Have a good wk end

ordering my Sightron iii tomorrow, thinking of the LRIRMH

what is your flavor ?

thanks again

Just replaced my Leupold 6-20x40mm with the SIII 9-32X56mm and am very happy with the extra power and brightness. I went with the MOA-2 reticle as that is what I prefer for 600/1000yd F-Class. YMMV. Mounted on an Eliseo tubegun with a 20moa rail using steel Warne Tactical rings, which are nice. Think you will be pleased with your SIII.

I had a Target Dot and traded it for a FCH model. I like the FCH for target shooting. Lets me aim small. But the Target Dot was nice too. Just for me it covered slightly too much of my aiming point

i have a few Nightforces 12-42x56 and one sightron SIII 10-50x56 and a Weaver 36x. The sightron at 50x is as clear and maybe clearer than the Nightforce at 42x and much clearer than the Weaver.

Thus far am very pleased with my 8-32X56 SIII with MOA-2 reticle and Warne Tactical rings. A big step up from the 8-24X40 Leupold that it replaced.
