Sightron III 8-32 ring height in Burris style

Just ordered a Sightron III 8-32x56mm scope. Will put it on a Savage Model 12 build with a straight McGowen bull barrel.

I would like to use Burris Signature 30mm rings with inserts.

High or Extra High rings?

Anyone use Burris rings on a SIII 8-32? The front bell is about 65mm.

The ring chart on MidwayUSA says extra high for above 62mm. Is this correct? I need practical experience.

Any other recommendations on rings?

I just mounted that same scope on my Savage Fclass with Burris 30mm sig zee Extra High rings on a Farrel 0moa base.I used those rings because I had them on hand I think with the Farrel base med rings would work.

Nice ... do you think the 'high' rings would fit? You seem to have a good bit of clearance in the photo.

What base are you using? I know high rings would work with a Farrel

Basic Warne 2-piece, weaver style mounts for Savage. Oh yeah, and they're black.

I have a Savage F class in 6mmBR and mounted a Sightron SIII 8-32x56 first in extra high Burris Sig.Zee rings. Way to high. I took a chance on the same thing in a med. height and it worked great. Base is a one piece Farrel. Have a little more then 1/8' between scope and barrel.

i used medium burris sig zee with a farrel 1 piece base with my slll 8-32x56 and have plenty of clearence, gun is a savage model 12 bvss with mc gowen bull barrel. plenty of clearence like i said.

Unless they changed something, Farrell's bases were always about 0.1' thicker than most other bases...don't forget about that.

I had to order the Burris extra high rings for my SIII 8-32 because the bull barrel in my after market stock,a nice one) with Warne bases on my Savage were just about a c**t hair too close to the barrel with the high rings, just about rubbing. The extra highs will be in today and we'll see. Really like the Burris rings, though.

Timely topic for me also. I am putting together a Savage target action with bull barrel but am going to be useing a Farrell 20moa base. Would I be safer going with the high Burris Zee rings over the medium considering the taper in the base?? TB

The Burris high rings wound up being just a little too close for comfort on my McGowen bull barrel atop my Savage Mod 12. So I picked up a pair of Warne high rings and they are perfect in height and build.

Ben, I have a heavy barreled 110 1' at the muzzle Preacher said to use high 30mm Burris sig rings with Weaver bases for my new 8x32x56mm Sightron and it was perfect height about 1/8' above the barrel just enough room for scope caps.,Thanks Bruce for the great advice}
